I have the Osprey Aura (women’s) AG, which weighs in at 4lbs with the brain. I also have the Arc Haul 50L, which I got because I was trying to save weight over my Osprey Aura AG. I have taken the Arc Haul on 2 trips and I really wanted to like it, but I do not. It is not very comfortable and the most annoying thing about it is that I cannot reach my water bottle pockets. I tried adding a water bottle to the chest, but it really got in my way and fell out any time I bent over or climbed over a log. I am now considering the Flash Air 50L. I just looked at one at my local REI, but am waiting until I can use my member discount. Anyone want to buy an Arc Haul? I will sell mine! It is in like new condition.

When I take freeze dried meals I trim as much of the excess package foil away on the bags to within a 1/4” (~ 4-5 mm) of the inner bag. Because I’m going to eat these within days self life integrity is no longer an issue. Or in some cases I transfer the food to plastic bags when I know I’m going to divide out for “stew” meals to minimize volume in the bear container. Again shelf live does not matter at this point.
