The phrase "kampung boy" here in Malaysia has positive connotations. It says that he is well brought up, humble, has filial piety and doesn't forget his roots. At the same time, he has a steely determination to succeed, probably because of hardship endured while growing up in the kampung, which in the past at least, lacked life's basic necessities. But funnily enough, if we were to say in Malay, "Ahhh ... dia budak kampung" in a certain tone, it means he is naive, not worldly, lacking of knowledge and could be taken advantage of. I think this is what this phrase in Indonesia implies.
@tomiemyspace505410 ай бұрын
The same meaning whether it is Kampung Boy or Budak Kampung. The one you described as the meaning of Kampung Boy probably only applicable to succesful kampung boy. Budak Kampung/Kampung Boy is just someone who was born in Kampung and brought up there in his upbringing like having a primary schooling in Kampung. The other attributes not related to the pure meaning of Kampung Boy. Lat's Kampung Boy story is another story that may influence people to give another perspective of Kampung Boy's meaning.

Kampung Boy is a positive term as it takes after the classic graphic novel written with the same title by legendary cartoonist, Lat. You should get one as it tells a nostalgic story about a boy growing up in the kampung. It's actually Lat's own life story. Hope it is still in print.

N9 (negeri sembilan) is the home of _masak lomak cili api_ where _masak_ = cook _lomak_ = creamy _cili_ = chilli _api_ = fire 🔥 Also _daging salai, itik salai, ayam salai_ etc _masak lomak_ which actually is again _masak lomak cili api_ as well 🔥 Then n9 too is home of _lomang._ And _rendang_ in n9 style, which is greenish in color due to the sheer number of green _cili padi_ used! Whereas _rendang_ from other states especially _rendang tok_ from north peninsular (namely kedah) has reddish color instead. As well as _sambal tempoyak._ And the unique _sambal daun kayu_ which has at least 7 types of green leaves, plus _tempoyak._ But n9 is not all about hot _cili padis,_ because n9 is also home of the sweets called _penganan_ otherwise known as _dodol_ in other states, plus it shares with melaka the unique cousin of _penganan/dodol_ called _kuih sirat_ or _wajik sirat_ which is actually a favorite of mine (that is if it is done correctly, it's a bit hard to get the right balance, so a lot people simply fail in their attempts)

Rambutan have many type like Rambutan masam, rambutan gading, rambutan gula batu and etc. like the same with different skin colour, shape and taste.
