So gentle, so sweet and so very relaxing. What a beautiful song sung by such a beautiful lady. This lady has such a beautiful voice and a wonderful talent. It's a joy to listen to this song and to the album this song came from.

@AmberLucero13 Hi, The words she uses are the old words written by the Shaker Joseph Bracket in 1848. He also wrote the tune. It is a Shaker dance song. Shaker dances were a form of worship and were not as rapid as modern dances. The dancers tended to be in lines or blocks. As Shakers are now extint (so to speak) we will never know if Jewel has captured the original essence of the song, but I like to hope she has.

She did the song beautifully.... But the voice that belongs to that song, that thrills and gives cold chills..... belonged to Pete Duel. I've never heard anyone sing it sweeter than Pete.

@ serenhedges - lord of the dance was based on this. I played all four movements of this on my clarinet a few years back, it's so, so beautiful. This was actually a shaker song, and they're all gone. Thank god Copland found this or we wouldn't know it now.

@skenzable I think the 'he' that downtoawhisper was referring to, was Satan. If so, the lower-case is certainly appropriate.

@downtoawhisper when speaking of Jesus you don't say "he" you say He. Capital H, and yes He did die for YOUR sins. He died for the sins of all his children, and that is every SINGLE person in the world no matter who you are.
