She visits kosher butcher shops and fish shops in Melbourne and Sydney, with food preparation supervised by a rabbi. She samples sweet plaited bread challah and bagels; vibrant borscht (beetroot soup); and cholent - a slow-cooked dish of meat and pulses that is perfect as a Sabbath dish.

I know that this was filmed a while ago and it was one of the most fabulous films on really Jewish cooking that I have ever seen, I live in the South now but I grew up with Jewish European parents and they cooked all these wonderful foods. I cannot find any thing close to a Jewish anything here so I cook my own versions. Why wasn't this on American T.V. like a PBS programming? I caught this on youtube . I never see anything on television about Jewish baking or cooking. It would be great to view this type of thing on television. LOve this so much and thanks for reading. I miss the old days of seeing the family cook and bake Jewish European foods.

I actually find the syrian cuisine more familiar to us in Israel with jewish changes due to kosher restrictions more then "the jewish food" presented here probably cause our roots aren't from eastern Europe

Some of it looks good. But I don't think I would ever get excited over gefilte fish. Maybe it tastes good but it sure looks like cat food. And I remember having Kugel. I couldn't figure out why it was sweet. Maybe the one I had just wasn't good. lol
