Among food lovers, Ramla Market is one of the best known places to eat. It’s located about a 30 minute drive from the center of Tel Aviv, and along with my friend David, we headed there one morning to go on an amazing food tour.
Ramla Market is especially known for its variety of Turkish and Iraqi food influences, and it’s just an amazing food market.
Halil Restaurant - The first place we stopped in Ramla is Halil, another legendary hummus restaurant. But even better than their hummus for me, I loved their musabaha, raw tahini with whole chickpeas. Total price - 60 ILS ($16.76)
Prickly pear - Oddly, prickly pear which is originally from SW United States is very popular across Israel. The fruit vendor peeled me a prickly pear, which is full of seeds, but pretty good.
Turkish burekas - One of the popular street food snacks at Ramla Market is Turkish burekas, a snack that’s also common throughout the Balkans. They were really amazingly good, a perfect salty cheesy snack. Price - 5 ILS ($1.40) per piece
Naji Iraqi Restaurant - This is one of the highlights of the market for me, a family run Iraqi Jewish food restaurant. David explained to me that Iraqi Jewish food is so hard to find at restaurants because most people only make the dishes at home. There were definitely some dishes that I had never tried before, and it was an amazing meal. Total price - 200 ILS ($55.88)
Again, big thank you to David, go check out his amazing food adventures: / the.hungry.tourist

My family are Iraqi jews who fled in the 50’s. I really want to visit. I have always felt like Baghdad is a part of me. I have this great feeling of sadness when I think about it it’s like I’m nostalgic but I’ve never been. My family raised me to be proud of Babylonian heritage and I want to visit to put a place and land to my culture. We were there for 2500 years indigenous to Babylon and the land it is in my heart, soul and blood. One day I will visit and understand why my family was so proud to call themselves Iraqi and be from that beautiful land and culture. P.s. the best Iraqi Jewish dish is a Shabbat tibeet with that crunchy rice and a little Amba oof so delicious.

We are SO going to check it out - kubbeh is one of my favorite foods on the planet; particularly kubbeh maroq edom (the beet one!) though that bamya khatan (small okra) looks incredible too! Mark, Had lunch at this place today best your video. I am an American with Iraqi wife born in Israel. Her family cooks most of the food you showed us. They loved it. The owner remembered you and spent about 30 minutes at our table laughing with us and taking history of our families and sharing a great meal. This small spot is a gem and $100 US for so much. Lots of love went into these dishes that are time consuming to make. He starts work at 4 AM and opens at noon. Food is fresh and tastes are amazing. We wil reurn on another trip. Thanks for the excellent videos are Israel. The food here, whether traditional or fusion, it off the hook. Be well! Eat well!

Is it just jewish iraqis that make kuba inside of beetroof stew? I'm kurdish, but this is the first time I've seen kuba inside of beetroot or okra stew. we have okra stew, but we don't put the kuba inside. Also. why is there meatballs in the fasolia? its usually either chunks of meat or just fasolia. never seen meatballs.
@Tasty-Dishes
@Tasty-Dishes 6 жыл бұрын
Roz Sa Hi there, I am Chaldean/ Assyrian and we do cook Kubba with beets and other vegetables but not okra :). For the white bean I cook it with chunk meat with bone preferably but cooking stew meat require a lot of time so cooking it with meatballs is a quick method. I do it with potato curry for quick meal :).
@recruitmentch
@recruitmentch 6 жыл бұрын
We have lovely tomato based okra stew like we do it with meat or on its own, but never with kuba inside of it. The Kubba with beetroot is definitely a massive surprise. Mum gave a similar reasoning regarding the meatballs in the bean stew. She said that it could be when they moved, good quality meat chunks on the bone or otherwise might have been difficult to get / expensive. So meatballs are a cheaper alternative and yet still filling. It just doesn't look quite right though. The kuba with pumpkin / butternut squad chunks is also something I've not seen, but its a good alternative to potatoes.
