What Jayamohan said is true in some instances. The mistake he made is to relate the incident with only Malayalis. But I have been staying outside Kerala for over 25 years. This is a common problem across. People relate travel with alcohol. They don't know about responsible drinking.

While I agree that intoxicated individuals can be intimidating in touristy areas and social gatherings, the issue with Jayamohan’s comment is that it's unfairly branded as exclusive to Malayalis, which I disagree with. I've witnessed tourists from other states getting drunk and behaving similarly in Kerala as well. I live abroad and I've seen locals here causing nuisances after getting drunk to the extent that others immediately flee the scene and avoid involvement. The common denominators in these cases are: 1. They are mostly young people: late teens and early adults. 2. They tend to act irrationally when in groups. Therefore, labeling just one group as hooligans is unjust. Another point worth noting is that not everyone who vomits during trips is an alcoholic; in my experience, many instances are due to motion sickness. Selectively blaming a specific group to fit a narrative is pathetic!! Additionally, the mindset of addressing ordinary people as 'perukkis' and making disgusting comments like what Siju (kuttan) did deserves jail time rather than being awarded for bravery, is arrogant and unbecoming of a writer. It appears he has some inherent hatred towards Malayalis and that shows.

ഈ ഒരു തേഞ്ഞ പരിപാടി കോളേജുകളിലും ഉണ്ട് . 2010 -2014 വർഷത്തിൽ എൻജിനിയറിങ് പഠിച്ചതാണ് കോളേജിലെ tech fest ഒക്കെ നാട് നീളെ തെണ്ടി ലക്ഷങ്ങൾ പിരിച്ച് കൊണ്ട് വന്നു വളണ്ടിയർ ആയി ഓടിയാലും നമുക്ക് ഒന്നും കിട്ടില്ല. പക്ഷെ ഇത്രേം ചെയുന്നവർക്ക് ഒരു നാരങ്ങാ വെള്ളം വാങ്ങാൻ പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് ഫണ്ട് ഒന്നും കാണില്ല. കലാശക്കൊട്ട് കഴിഞ്ഞ് രാത്രി എവിടെയെങ്കിലും കുപ്പി പൊട്ടിക്കാൻ ഫണ്ട് മാറ്റി വെക്കും. അവരൊക്കെ അടിച്ച് വാള് വെച്ചത് അടക്കം തുക്കുന്നത് കുടിക്കാത്ത വളണ്ടിയർസ് ആയിരിക്കും. പെൺകുട്ടികൾക്കു ഇത് തന്നെ അവസ്ഥ. കുടിയന്മാരുടെ എണ്ണം താരതമ്യേനെ കൂടിയതല്ലാതെ ഈ പ്രവണതക്ക് 10 വർഷത്തിന് ശേഷവും മാറ്റമുണ്ടെന്നു പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നില്ല.

I went with a team of 20 for a trip where in I was the one who don't take liquor..but not averse to anyone or liquor ... even though nothing made me painful.. but the loud music which an normal ear can bear on a luxury bus and the sound of decibels which a alcoholic ear can withstand is un imaginable😅 even I was having 2 days of continous headache.. the others did have...amazing facts of drinks and my drunken friends

That story is typical of any kerala boys of this ages including mine. Past three decades we are going. Even today we go with and without family. I am the one who do not drink in the group... I partially agree with jeyamohan. He has the right to say things bluntly, he is forward in his opinions. There is a large and real issue of bachelor groups especially aged 16-30 that behave recklessly at tourist, nature and exploration points. However this isn't only observed in Kerala youth but most of South India in various degrees, from mahabalipuram beach to city spots to kodai, Ooty and even spots in Karnataka including wonderla there are stag batches of men with zero regards to rules, other visitors, girls and nature. Stricter punishments and fines are the only solution to these problems. To generalize this issue as one only observed in Kerala and to call the movie makers drug use promoters is just angry words spoken for effect.
