I've been a trucker for 6 years, and I actually just drove through Wyoming a couple days ago while going from Lincoln, NE to Fontana, CA. It's a beautiful drive in the summer, but it's absolutely treacherous in the winter. I've been stranded in Cheyenne and Laramie several times waiting for storms to pass and the interstate to open back up. Extreme winds, snowdrifts, lack of snowploughs, heavy ice, etc. The first time I experienced -30 degrees was at a truck stop in Cheyenne. They definitely got the colors of the terrain and the rolling hills spot on for summer. I actually LOVE That they have the Lincoln memorial modelled in-game. I have to say though, the real-life memorial is creepy AF, especially when you come up to it at night lol. That downgrade down the mountain after the memorial going westbound is a real blast, but it's way steeper than how it looks in-game. I still can't get used to the fact that you can go from Cheyenne to Laramie in less than 5 minutes in this game. In real life, they're about 50 miles apart.
@jasonmsmith2
@jasonmsmith2 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the map is 1:20 scale so 50 miles in game is approx 2.5 IRL miles. the cities are scaled a little larger. You'll notice the clock also works the same... out on open road the time runs faster than when in the cities. It's a pretty neat way to manage game play against the sense of long distance highway driving between cities. But it can get a little funny in instances like this where cities are close by (like COS and Denver).

Some of those fences are "Snow Fences" which limit the amount of blowing snow and drifts on the highways. A blizzard mod for some states would be very appropriate.
@stagalgiz1097

Sadly they don't work that well. The drive from Casper to Medicine Bow, or 130 from Wolcott to Saratoga are proof of that in the winter.

You were thinking exactly what I was Jeff in regards to sounds. I wish they would contract someone like Zeemods to do there truck sounds. This game would be so much better right out of the gate.
@The-Night-Wolf

Yeah it would be awesome to have them improve the sounds a bit on the base game. That is the biggest issue I have with the base game.
@JAvellino669
@JAvellino669 2 жыл бұрын
I definitely agree with the stock sounds being bad. It's crazy how modders can get the sound so much closer to reality. It's also nuts how SCS makes the motors sound different by truck brand, rather than by engine. Jakes especially seem to be attached to the brand. Kenworth trucks have the only close to acceptable Jake sound.
@fireshorts5789
@fireshorts5789 2 жыл бұрын
honestly the only stock sounds I can deal with are the ones the T680 and W900 use (I'm guessing because they recorded them at the Paccar plant), the rest of them are all garbage to me. It's really unfortunate cause the last few trucks they've released have been really high visual quality but the sounds are just such a let down.

As someone who has driven cross country wyoming is the hardest state to drive thorugh, the least places to get a charge or fuel, and in the winter wydot only has like 10 trucks per county so you can get trapped on i-80. Gotta plan your drive no matter what your driving in wyoming
@stagalgiz1097
@stagalgiz1097 2 жыл бұрын
Oh no WyDOT has more trucks than that, just they either can't find drivers or the drivers themselves are snowed in.... Unless you live in Casper, Cheyenne, Laramie or Rawlins..... Okay not Rawlins the WyDot guys there don't want to leave their house or they are busy trying to keep 789 open. The Saratoga guys only go to Wolcott and back down to Encampment and three way (WyColo, Wood's Landing, whatever you wanna call it). Hanna and Med Bow take care of their area of 130 and 487.

They did a really great job smashing together multiple places to bring multiple real life locations with only a single exit. The Walmart DC, Little America, and that factory south of the road are all at different exits IRL, but they managed to bring them together and keep an authentic feel for the area.

I really like the LCD display, makes the wheel really stand out. Not a huge fan of the overall design but it's something to get used to I guess. As to the 'grainy feel', I have a g29 and the grainy feel was coming from the engine FFB. I set that to 1/8 of the bar and feels good now. Idk if thats the same feeling you're talking about or not. Could also be due to the fact that it's gear driven rather than belt. There's always some grain as the gears grind. I never had a belt driven wheel, so can't say for sure. Also, I had my g29 for couple of months now and been adjusting the FFB here and there for ets2 and ats to a point where I really like it and feels nice. I guess it could be the same with the T248 if someone is using it for a long time period

I travel around Ft. Collins/Cheyenne/Rock Springs often, so it's crazy to see it simulated! Aside from the obviously shortened routes (which is weird!), many features of the scenery look really good. However, what little I saw of Cheyenne from the road looked odd; a giant wind farm just west of Cheyenne is missing and there are waaay too many trees everywhere! Southern Wyoming is high desert (~6500'+) so the terrain is mostly rolling prairie and trees are rare. The changeable speed limit signs are there and exactly as you say - they can be programmed remotely to adjust to adverse road conditions: high winds, blowing snow, accidents, construction, etc. The usual limit between Cheyenne and Laramie is 75, but eventually becomes 80. Incidentally, not far from the Lincoln monument you stopped by is a cool historical throwback: the Ames Monument. (Wonder if that was modeled in the DLC?) It's a giant rock pyramid out in the middle of an empty field a few miles south of I-80. It was built back in the 1800s to honor two brothers, Union Pacific financiers for the transcontinental railroad. (Turns out they were corrupt.) The rail line was eventually abandoned and the surrounding town of Sherman became a ghost town, but the pyramid remains to this day alone in the middle of nowhere! Cool sight to see.

The drive is exactly correct. I was raised in Saratoga, Wyoming, lived in Rawlins for a short time, traveled to Laramie many times growing up. I currently live in Casper and drive to Cheyenne weekly and once or twice a month to Fort Collins, Colorado. You were correct about that being Cheyenne when you left I-25 for the I-80 interchange. There are like 5 fireworks stands or buildings coming back into Wyoming from Colorado. As for heading to Laramie, that pass is Sherman Pass and it's a nightmare in the winter. Anyone from Wyoming knows that pass. What's worse is Elk Mountain (the big mountain before you hit Walcott Junction which takes you to Saratoga and Encampment to the south and Hanna, Medicine Bow, Rock River or if you take 487 north then Casper). I would like to see this map turned into a mod for GTA V. I-80 from Rawlins to Rock Springs is a nightmare but not as bad as the sisters between Green River and Evanston. 220 from Casper to Rawlins is also a nightmare in the winter, as well as I-25 from Casper to Buffalo and the I-90 interchange. I also drive from Casper to Rapid City, South Dakota weekly, though I don't take I-25 to I-90 and Gillette. The roads are pretty accurate though.

Cheyenne is smaller than real life, but it looks real! I can't wait to drive by my house. Great job SCS!

Being from Wyoming it looks pretty dang accurate! It’s cool to see where I’m from on a game. You should go through Rock Springs!

I'm so excited! I get married on the 5th, get back home the 6th, and then Wyoming releases on the 7th! It looks so good and from what I've seen it will be worth the extra few months of waiting

Laramie Raised former resident. I'm so glad that they put the Lincoln Monument in the game. It's so much cooler in person, but you're at 9000ft elevation at the peak of the mountain. grab your o2 tank!! lol You went right by my old trailer park when you got into Laramie, right after that church on the right there was the park on the left.

I think that tall fence you were talking about are snow fences to catch snow & they help prevent snow from blocking the highway

I run that route weekly. And have for the last 10 years. That merge from i25 to i80 is identical and dangerous lol. Big ass u-turn on ramp with 50 feet to get speed and merge onto the traffic. And if you’re heavy good luck. Because it starts up hill right away. Pretty good mapping for a video game! Also the suggested speed limit is for winter. They change it depending on weather condition. Wyoming can be a scary ass state when it snows. It looks nothing alike between winter and summer.

I live just a mile north on round top road. Where the Walmart distribution center is in Cheyenne. Looks super close to the real place. Can't wait to go see for my self.

The gates/highway closed on I-80/I-70/I-25 in Wyoming/Colorado is because of the heavy snows and snow drifts from the weather there. The giant fences is for either bison/buffalo or snow fencing

I-80 in the winter can get very treacherous! I work in helicopter air rescue and we have a few bases in Wyoming, the wind can get up to 60kts + with regular occurrence lol
