JFK Airport to Midtown Manhattan via Subway & Bus for only $2.75 - Raw & Unedited

John F Kennedy International Airport is one of three major airports in the NYC Metropolitan Area. In this video, I show how you can get to Midtown Manhattan for only $2.75. By no means is this the fastest option or the only option. It can get quite confusing where to go and which bus to take. The recommended method of public transportation from most travel websites and bloggers is to take the AirTrain JFK Monorail for $7.75 to either Howard Beach or Jamaica, and then transfer to the subway, but I show that the subway and bus combination is also a feasible option. In total, it took me about 1 hour and 45 minutes to get to Midtown.

As hard as it is to believe most people in New York don't realize you can get to Manhattan from JFK for only $2.75 by taking the bus out of terminal 5 instead they pay more by taking the AirTrain to either Jamaica or Howard Beach and paying the exit fee out of there

Quite informative and great video ! Especially for those whome never have been in New York 🗽 and are not familiar any of the airports of NYC ! And you were right about that just by listening your narration , that it’s very confusing to get the transportation , cheap one especially !! So any money option is welcomed if don’t be so rush to get to the final destination , aka hotel !! So i find this video quite informative and helpful !! And it was nice to see JFK airport even for awhile !! This could cause lots of headaches , but 2,75$ sounds quite reasonable price in case there is no hurry so !! Thank you A K for sharing 🗽👍!!!

Travelers unfamiliar with NYC probably wouldn't take this route, it's rough just finding the bus stop. The Metrocard transfer doesn't work between the Air Train and the NYC subway either. The 57th Street station at the end of your trip is a recent station which opened around 1967. It was a terminal for about thirty years until the 63rd street tunnel to Queens finally opened. So its recent renovation was odd considering how many older stations need upgrade.

For most travelers I won't recommend this route just due to all the hassles of having to get off the AirTrain (unless you're already at Terminal 5) and dealing with luggage. You'll spend about $8 more at the minimum but you'll save a lot of time.

@@AshmewStudios I know he rode the bus, but other people who take Airtrain to the subway, because they don't realize there are other routes, might not know there's no free transfer. This is good advice, and handy for those feeling a little adventurous. When I came from England to NY in November ‘21 I got a taxi from JFK to Midtown fully aware of the fare and charges and tips, so it was no big. But what made THAT trip memorable was there was a massive freak thunderstorm when we got near Flushing Meadows. Even the driver said it was odd for the time of year, and spectacular to see, too. I remember my other half saying “wouldn’t it be cool if it struck a building”, and as if to reinforce my conception that my better half IS a god….lightning struck one of the high rises in the city….TWICE! And then we had an amazing week in the city, and even ventured out of the city from Grand Central on a train to a little town to Cold Spring! Highly recommend that day trip. We also missed bumping into Action Kid by about half hour on two occasions! Lol Anyways, thanks for all your videos Kid! You are, and always will be, a legend in my eyes.

Notice at about 1:17:30, the NYC subway phenomenon of the local train outrunning the express.😆 Incidentally, at one time, 57th and 6th was the terminal for the JFK Express.

For most Tourist its better and easier to use AirTran and then connect with Subway. That is the 7.75 +2.75 option, that bus option will be very confusing for arranging tourist who are not familiar

Great informative video! One question: How do you pay your ticket if you want to go outside NYC, but want to stay in the metropolitain area, let's say NYC-Mamaroneck...is the MetroCard still valid then?
@ActionKid
@ActionKid 2 жыл бұрын
You can use MetroCard on Bee-Line Westchester bus and NICE Nassau County bus. They'll even include a free transfer if you used a MetroCard to pay for a NYC bus or subway within 2 hours. You can also pay for an extra ticket for Metro-North or Long Island Railroad but it's more expensive.

thanks for the tip! is it possible to take unlimited 7 days metro card in JFK airport and then use the bus + metro to Manhattan?
@ActionKid
@ActionKid Жыл бұрын
I don’t think there’s an option to buy a 7 day unlimited MetroCard at the airport. However, all NYC buses and subways use the OMNY system now and you can pay with a contactless payment card or smart phone. If you spend $33 in fares for the preceding week, your rides for 7 days will be free starting on Monday.

Actually, there are mentio card machine at the airport JFK, but not if you're taking the bus route, if you're taking the LIRR route, then when you come out the departure section you have to pay $7.75 or $10.75 to exit to the LIRR platform. There are machines there to reload or get a new metro card and also purchase a white LIRR ticket at the same machine section. Once you exit the section and pay with the metro card, then you head in the directron down to the LIRR platform, but before you go down, by the steps, there are machines there too to get a LIRR ticket, if you forgot or didn't know you can get them at the same section where you just got your metro new or reloaded. There is also a new Grand central stop instead of Penn station which you arrive in downtown manhattan.

Born and raised in Queens, I had no idea this was a option. Question, if I want to head to the airport, take the subway and then take this bus, will I get a free transfer as well or does the free transfer only work from the airport into queens?
@kevinnorris6558
@kevinnorris6558 2 жыл бұрын
How the MetroCard works is that once you swipe it, the next swipe will be a transfer (AKA free). This is assuming that your next swipe is within 2 hours, as the free transfer expires after 2 hours have passed. Transfers work from bus to bus, bus to train, train to bus, train to train, etc. I've never used the air trains that costed money so I can't say how MetroCards work with that.

@@jungdonna You wouldn't walk to Howard Beach. I don't believe there is a way to get from the JFK parking lot to the A-Train without paying the Airtrain fare. Instead, what you do is walk 20 min to Aqueduct-Conduit. Action Kid has a video where he does this but it's a bit old, done in the dark, and only shows the walk, not the full experience.
