Here's a demo and review of the JHS Colour Box V2. A super versatile Guitar and Microphone Preamp, DI Box, and excellent sounding Fuzz and Distortion pedal. It also doubles as and EQ pedal for guitar, vocals, bass, mixing, and everything else!

This looks like a great thing to plug into the Interface, and just plug whatever you're recording, into it. I have a Synth setup, and a guitar setup, and this looks very useful for both. Plus, Vocal mics, too. Thanks!

It’s a really great preamp with any audio source!! The Neve sound is so classic and this one gives you so much control over the sound.

Thinking about getting this to pair with the ACS1 for going direct as an always on flavor booster/enhancer/preamp type thing! I currently have the Benson Preamp, and while it's lovely and great, it does add a bit of sag to the low end that I don't always want. This looks like a great fit! Thanks for the great review with the many great different applications!

That sounds like a great combo!! The jhs is so great for sculpting sound when it’s not only used as a boost. So if you’re using it with an amp sim it should work perfect! Thanks for watching

great stuff Sir you are soooo knowledgeable they could teach a college course on this pedal wow it's amazing, does the pre amp work similar to the JHS Clover pedal ? Peace !

Thank you! Yeah it’s a super versatile pedal for EQ and preamp purposes. The eq is similar but the Preamp on the Colour box is more Versatile. The clover has one volume/gain and the Colour box has a preamp gain, master volume and stepped gain that goes up by about 5db each click.

Thanks for the video! Where would you recommend putting this pedal on your pedal chain? I have a Benson pre-amp that goes at the beginning of mine. Am conflicted about whether to put it before it, or last in my chain.

Where should the pedal sit with a 10 band equalizer before or after? And just to say I have my equalizer in the effects loop.

A few thoughts : 1. If you want a gain boost/different channel sound put it in the front. 2. If you want an easy volume boost/low to no gain boost, put it in the loop after the EQ. 3. If you want somewhere in between put in the loop before the EQ. Start with those and mess around!

Have you tried micing your amp using this pedal instead of running the mic xlr straight into the interface? Or would that add unwanted gain?

You can keep the interface gain down all the way and it works fine. In all of my other videos not featuring this pedal, I use this pedal as my mic preamp straight into my zoom H6. So if you check out my other videos, you’ll hear this pedal as a preamp!

Hi, there’s nothing before the Colour Box 2! All distortion is coming from that pedal!

Does this take mic level and send the vocals out at instrument level for other guitar FX with vocals?

I believe so, you’d have to check the manual to be sure. You can select xlr or 1/4 inch out for the pedal and you can control the output volume with the master volume knob which should help balance it out

@@nickguitarfiorentino Thanks… yeah. I read the manual but it doesn’t actually say the output level but I’d think it was a safe bet to assume the 1/4” is instrument level and the XLR is line level. You do offer me confidence in that you can always turn the master volume down if it’s too hot. Plus if I remember correctly, there is a -20 pad on the XLR input too. It’s a freaking cool box!
