Prochazka said (in English) that if the UFC says he should fight Rakic first, he would happily do it, no problem at all, but that his personal preference would be to take Dana White at his word that the winner of his fight against Reyes would get a title shot. He also said that his team are in negotiations about having him prepare as a stand-in for Glover against Jan in September in case Glover gets injured or for whatever other reason does not fight in September. He also said that it is good for him to have time to "upgrade his skills" before the Jan fight, but never said he needed a whole year (totally made up by Chael) or that he would not fight sooner if asked to do so.

The old guys that have stuck around are more the exception than the rule. The sport is getting younger as are most professional sports. Look at Reyes for example, 29. I’m not saying he’s done but after three defeats and two brutal KO’s would anyone blame him if he retired?

Think of football or basketball for example. Yes, some the greats play into their late 30’s or sometimes 40’s but on average most guys are lucky to get a few good years in the big leagues. As for Chael, he’s making the point that taking a year off is not a good idea, and I agree. There’s no guarantee he’ll just walk back into a title shot a year from now. Most guys on the roster would kill for an opportunity like that, and most will never get a title shot. The goal is to make as much money in sport as quickly as you can because it can go away quickly IMHO. In MMA specifically, things change so quickly with injuries, and new contenders emerge all the time.
