When Jim mentioned Bob Luce I cracked up. Grew up in Chicago area in the middle 60s. He had all his buddies on those commercials. Bobo, Pepper Gomez, Moose, Bruiser, etc. Sam Mennacker was the ring announcer. It was a hot mess.😂

I am old enough to remember Riesor doing non-wrestling announcing at channel 3 in Shreveport. He would read some news updates during the day. He would also call random people in the phone book for the “Dialing for Dollars” giveaway contest during the afternoon movie.

There were times that Marc Lowrance show a little fire...but it took something huge like Rick Hazzard getting his neck hung up in the ropes, or Fritz Von Erich collapsing in Reunion Arena on Christmas Night.
@richmiller8615
@richmiller8615 2 жыл бұрын
I remember that happening to David Manning when he was reffing a bout between the Von Erichs against Chris Adams and Gino Hernandez. Manning got bumped, and I think he was supposed to go out of the ring, but got all mixed up somehow and his head went between the top two ropes, and the rest of his body went over the top, resulting in him doing a legit Mick Foley hangman spot! Marc Lowerance panicked and immediately hollered: "MY GOD, HE'S CHOKING!!!" He abandoned his commentary and jumped up on the ring apron with Rick Hazzard to get him loose. He goes back to commentary saying: "I beg your pardon! He could've been killed in those ropes!" It seemed like he was jacked up the rest of the match.

We forgot one in WCW. I never knew who's idea it was to do this. Van Earl Wright, from CNN, would do voiceovers for the local WCW house shows in the early part of the Turner ownership. He would use voice inflections that truly did sound like a bad carnival barker. I would always be like, shut up and let me read the card. I am either sold to buy a ticket or I am not.

About 20 years ago there was a small indie promotion here in St. Louis. I never went to one of there shows but once a month they had an hour long TV show on one of the community access cable channels, every year they had a $25.00 over the top rope battle royal, ($25.00 was the prize). They always did a live promo on their cable show and it was always the same, the play by play announcer would do his spiel and then the color commentator would jump in and say, "My god! $25.00! There's guys here that would throw their own grandmother over the top rope for $25.00!"

This is a good one. Marty Miller in the awa with his prescription sunglasses was unique too. I used to wonder, what's wrong with the old guy? Rodger Kent the match announcer totally blew kayfabe in the infamous Crusher and Mad Dog incident in 69 or 70 , you can find it here on KZfaq. Marc Lowrance did become a Methodist minister. He said his time in World Class helped prepare him. I think I understand what he means.

I know a few guys who bought their big luxury cars at “Bens Auto Sales” thanks to Bob Luce. His program would come on after always entertaining Harry Carey drunken White Sox broadcast. Perfect fit. His best shows involved HEENAN whining while Luce shows his tag team getting demolished by Crusher/Bruiser. He put the wrestling to ROCK MUSIC as far back as 1975. “Im a Man” Chicago track used BEFORE Lawler did. Heenan-Luce were non stop hilarious. THAT is a HUGE reason we watched...

Reiser Bowden was a very formal-looking gentleman. He always looked proper. Boyd Pierce was a legend with no sense of fashion, and very rural sounding. I loved both these men, as they and the Cowboy were my childhood wrestling experience with Mid-South Wrestling. Mark Lowrance in WCCW was VERY excitable when calling matches, just bland as the ring announcer. He was a seminary student who took a 9 week gig that lasted for a decade or more.

Backlund. This match in question was about 1975 and involved Blackjack Lanza. The announcer said. And here is Blackjack LaLanza. That they are endorsed by Jim? Yes i have, and no it doesn't hurt the people, and even if, it's not what im' referring to, it hurts this channel, that could easily turn all those subscribers to ad revenue, and more people watching means more ad revenue... As i said in the first comment was just wondering why they don't do it, i didn't need someone to tell me it's hard or easy for people to find it, i was asking ARCADIANVANGUARD or the ones associated with it, as only they can answer why they won't/don't...

David Crockett was another announcer I couldn't stand. He didnt know the names of any moves. He just yelled "oh look at this..what a move". He didnt know how to tell the story and add to the match. Joey Styles is 1,000 times better than David Crockett. Joey Styles knows how to commentate on a match and actually knows the moves and submission holds and stuff like that. David Crockett doesn't even know most of the moves and I'll put it this way, he's very much like Vince McMahon when Vince McMahon was commentating. Remember the "what a maneuver" thing he used to do? Even though I was maybe 2 or 3 years old at the time, I can sympathize with it.
