I met Sheik in 1992 at Gleason Gym in Brooklyn, NY. While most rings were used for boxing, Sheik was using one ring off by itself to “shadow wrestle”. It was just him practicing moves and me, the only person watching. It was awesome. He had the curled boots on and was really, really, really nice to me. Although I couldn’t understand much of what he was saying, he said a lot! He went above and beyond… I’ll never forget meeting The Iron Sheik!!! RIP

He had nothing to do with Hulkamania. He was just a transition champion, since Vince didn't wanted to turn Backlund heel. Sheik really is just a minor footnote in the history of wrestling. They could've had some local jobber there as opponent, it would have accomplished the same exact thing.

@@ShadowAngel-lt8nw he came hot off the heels of chasing Bockwinkle's title for months. And not having an equally strong foil for capturing the WWF title could have crashed that momentum. Rip sheik. A few stories I remember is there is a story where bruno Sammartino was cornered and several men started trying to fight him and the sheik came to defend him and they cleared all the men out. Also he was infamously on the prank call him did back in the day with the crazy old lady

As far as wrestling deaths, Dusty and Roddy really knocked the stuffing out of me. Sheik hurts just a little more. God speed, Bubba. Keep breaking backs and making them humble with Gene Mean.

It was very sad to hear of the Iron Sheik's passing. He was one of the greatest heels of all time, the king of trolling on Twitter, and his hatred for Hogan was legendary even till his dying days. RIP Sheiky-Baby, thank you for everything and never forget "F*** Hulk Hogan."

RIP to The Iron Sheik. One of the top 10 hated wrestlers ever, especially when he tag teamed with Nikolai Volkoff. You add Freddie Blassie, I'm surprised at least one of them wasn't stabbed during that period. Great wrestler and true legend.

This passing has hit me a bit more then many other wrestlers. Wrestling was my childhood like a lot of others. I havent watched it in years but I absolutley hated him as a kid. Thats a the true test of a heel. Not only did i hate him everybody fucking hated him. The character he played was so well done. Fast forward to him post wrestling and I absolutley loved him. He was like that one drunk uncle we all have that has too many drinks and gets passionate about stuff we know nothing about but we listen and hang on to every word cause you know by the crackling and tone of the voice it meant something to him. He was a fucking gem and the world is a worse place today then it was before his passing. My favorite quote in wrestling " Ill Put him in the camel clutch , break his back and humble him " - Iron Sheik
