@P1 Styles I don’t think Douglas is jealous at all. He really didn’t care about wrestling the same way other guys did. He was more than prepared to make money outside of the business. I’m not even a fan of his, but boiling all of it down to “he’s just jealous” is such a simplistic view. There’s much more nuance to this, but there’s always that section of wrestling fans who are only capable of simplistic thinking. The same people who think wrestling means as much to everyone else as it does to them.

@P1 Styles If that means you would pull your pants down and expose yourself on an airplane you being nuts is your problem, not everyone else's. The people who work at the airport or for the airline's or the cab and van drivers taking them to and from the airport are not in the wrestling business. They do not need to know about wrestling ribs and do not have to put up with morons whipping their penises out, trying to drug people, getting into fist fights or whatever other juvenile nonsense someone with arrested development wants to get into.

@@fightsports66 if you are pantsed you do not pull your junk out. Someone being pantsed in front of me would not make me angry. If someone intentionally puts their own junk in my face then anger. You seemed to have missed that distinction in your reply to him. And cornette talks about that. Pranker(pantser), the pranked(pantsed), and innocent bystander(seated person) make it funny. There is no sexual gratification, so nobody should care if a child sees it. The child has likely seen their own and/or dad's and it will not traumatize a 0-13yr old, and older than that has gone through sex ed. TLDR version. Nobody is harmed, quit whining.

Don't involve outsiders in your insider crap. It's as simple as that. You're nothing but an annoyance to them. Nobody thinks it's funny or "charming" to be dragged into other peoples' insider group dynamics and "rituals". It's obnoxious. I don't know why that simple rule is so hard to process for some people. It's like nobody taught them anyting as children, including how to behave in a public environment. That P1 Whatever guy sounds like he's socially retarded, in the actual sense of that word. Nobody wants to have any "natural part" of yours in their field of vision on an airplane. Or in any other public environment. No wonder the majority of wrestlers, at least from the era discussed here, are nothing but pathetic fuckups in real life when they have to leave the wrestling bubble.

7:14 "We laid low on commercial flights because we're around the general public and we can't be ourselves." And therein lies the problem. In the old days, kayfabe kept the average wrestler in line. You didn't dare do something that would draw attention to yourself or 'give you away.'
@78bcat
@78bcat 2 жыл бұрын
Well you lay out Corny's schizophrenia perfectly: If kayfabe kept wrestling real, then it should have demanded they make a scene everywhere publicly...and once that con ended and it became above board showbiz, THAT should have kept wrestler in line because everybody knew that TV was just an act.

I'm sure there were other bad plane rides but people need to remember, this one was delayed for 7 hours where they just stayed on the plane. So it was 14 hours total with the first 7 being grounded where they could resupply the booze 3 or 4 times so they were much more loaded than usual which is why the 'Plane Ride From Hell' is the most notorious of the bunch.

I think in Jim's day, people had more respect for flying in general. People forget that people used to dress up to fly. Literally wear a suit & tie just to get on a plane. It was expected that you'd look & act professional just to fly on a plane. People would dress their children up in their Sunday best just to fly on a plane. Now, people get on planes half dressed and wearing flip flops while clipping their toenails right next to you.
@Mageman17

I'd make an effort as well to at least dress up on the few times I've gotten on a plane. And then I see someone in front of me wearing a wifebeater shirt, floppy shorts (not quite boxer briefs but still above the knee) and in flip-flops no socks.

The stuff Jim was talking about was funny - I remember hearing of a class trip in my school where some girls hid a Playgirl in another girl's suitcase just to see her reaction. Harmless fun, no one really gets hurt. But you hear stories of Davey Boy Smith trying to drug the van driver when he worked Stampede Wrestling as a joke - as someone who know winter in Saskatchewan and Alberta, that isn't a joke that ends well. That is beyond juvenile and really seems to be what you hear about WWF specifically in the 90's and early 2000, they acted like children and got away with it because they were making money.

She took her life December 8 2021. So to listen to these wrestlers on the dark side of the ring talk about drugging ladies or female fans and have there way. I doubt it. Guys that are smart enough to know it could jeopardize their contracts or runs (like Flair, Hall and Xpac) already don't appear. @P1 Styles He said if she wanted the truth to come out she should have gone to trial, not take a settlement. He did not state "it never happened", he hand waived it as being what wrestlers did at the time. He also stated Flair always did that and it was to be expected. I love wrestling man, but the people we grew up idolizing for the most part were horrible fucking people. Blaming someone for not wanting to relive a traumatic experience by having to go through a long court battle isn't an automatic dismissal of their claims. Dreamer essentially discounts what she said because she didn't. Fuck em, he's a relic.

With how he feels about flying, I think, if Jim had been on that plane ride, he’d now be serving consecutive life sentences for murder; if he had no way to kill them, when he was on the plane, he certainly would have done it when he got off: either by shooting them- like he threatened he’d do to Brock after he was a major prick to Jim’s girlfriend, or he’d have gone on a rampage, and mowed them down with his car haha..
