I would love for him to do a documentary from the beginning times of pro wrestling and Today's time.. I want to hear about The New York/East Coast, The Atlanta/Southeast, The Texas/Southwest, The West Coast and The Mid West.. I was looking up Rick Martel one day and I was talking to this commenter on KZfaq about why WWE hasn't put him in the Hall of Fame yet, He was telling me Rick Martel should be in! He wrestled in the Portland territories.. when he said that it blown my mind and wanted to know more.. He said the reason Rick Martel isn't in the Hall of Fame cause Vince doesn't own Portland and I had to sit back and think, that's probably why he's not in either because of that video library not belonging to Vince at this point..

Andre Ricardo Bryant Yea cuz the wwe is left with stupid viewers that seem to ONLY process short meaningless storylines and matches. Explains the low ratings. I bet if wwe cancelled they shows and decided to show reruns of the Golden Age or Attitude Era, it’ll draw more viewers/ratings than the bullshit they air today . And that’s facts!

@20:00 - "It looks like a performance rather than a conflict" This^ sums up succinctly what is SO wrong with wrestling these days and why it died for me ten, fifteen, years ago. Just a pair of people coming out and doing a bunch of moves and going back to the curtain. No psychology any more. No in-ring story telling. Oh, sure, there's plenty backstage "days of our lives" story telling - but no more tales are told in the ring. And i find that a very sad thing... So instead i watch "Brett Hart vs Roddy Piper" Wrestlemania VIII; or Shawn Michaels & Razor Ramon ladder match; Brett & Shawn Iron Man Match. Need i go on...?

This is a reminder of the sad state of modern pro wrestling as a whole. There has been so much of the culture and craft of wrestling that has been lost over the last 2-3 decades. It seems like most "wrestling schools" teach the mechanical aspects of ring work but don't go in depth about the business. Understanding the big picture is something many wrestlers these days are sorely lacking in. They may know how to get a cheap pop or spot pops but they don't understand how to build a match, they don't know how to get someone else over while also getting themselves over(they only know how to get over by burying someone else, it seems), and the list goes on. Long story short, when wrestlers and promoters these days often seem to lack understanding of things like terminology, how can one expect a random fan to know these things when they're being fed incorrect meanings by the working professionals who should know better? Losing the language of pro wrestling may not seem like a big deal to some but by losing the language and in turn a large part of the culture of pro wrestling, people are losing the fundamentals of the business of pro wrestling.
@kenrickeason
@kenrickeason 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks to The Older Vince McMahon we have now and the sad part is he knows all of this stuff and chose not to be bothered with it, Paul Haymen in the early 1990s with ECW who seem to say *"f__k those terminology"* It's not the young wrestlers fault cause the generation before them didn't teach them the terminology correctly.. @@kenrickeason Exactly, it isn't the newer guys and gals fault that the training they received has been lackluster more often than not. They've been taught by people who are either lacking in their own knowledge of pro wrestling or they purposefully held back knowledge from their students, for one reason or another. The real shame in all of this is that with each successive generation of wrestlers, the knowledge pool is diluting severely. We're at the point where there are few active workers in the ring who know anything significant about the business, from the language/slang to ring psychology to building/maintaining/growing a business, and so on. All people seem to know these days is how to mimic what they've seen without understanding why something works or doesn't work.

@Joe Greene Very true. I think that Omega, The Young Bucks, and many other workers largely recognized as the top guys these days have extreme talent and ability but they often don't know how to fully utilize what they can do. Ah... "milk it" has a different meaning today. Because milking it means that when it works, you're doing it over and over again. So getting a pop by punching a guy in the face - "milk it" wouldn't mean signaling you'd punch him... it would mean you'd keep on punching him afterwards.

Wasn’t it Randy Savage who really pushed the entire choreographed planed march? DDP was said to be famous for it as well, doing nothing on the fly.

People don’t say words like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to tell 'em stories that don't go anywhere - like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. Give me five bees for a quarter, you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah: the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

Holy Shit Jim, you nailed my exact problem with current product (all wrestling has this problem it's like the gorram 'Rona) Ricochet and Seth Rollins specifically have this problem, they don't make anything look like a struggle. It's too fluid, no effort, I personally blame Shawn Michaels and all his goofy shit.

I imagine it would hard to give wrestlers today a general story and finish of the match and let them work it out without specifying "don't kick out of each others finishers a dozen times" and "don't do some elaborate spot that would make a great finish in a later match and kill it as a two count in an eight minute match". You would have to really retrain the guys to make it work. You don't want to tell two guys in the opening match to have a five minute match with the heel reversing a rollup while grabbing the tights and then watch them no sell burning hammers at the two minute mark because they want to get in cool shit.

There are two terms (moves) that I wish I knew the names of (if they have names): 1.When a heel thinks he did something smart and taps the side of his head, showing the crowd that he is smart. He then turns around to be clobbered by the babyface. 2.During a tag team match, a heel is knocked silly and mistakenly goes to the wrong corner to tag out, only to be hit by the babyface.

The first ought to be known as "The Heenan Sell." Because early on Bobby Heenan was renowned for pantomime moves such as that. The second in honor of John Lennon "Instant Karma" (also the name of a guy in Kevin Sullivan's faction in early 1980s Florida).B.W.
