AEW copies Japans way of dealing with baby faces and heels. In that there are no true good and bad guys. People switch from match to match and sometimes they switch in the match. They switch and then reswitch withing a matter of weeks. Heels are aligned with baby faces in stables and vice versa. A babyface will have a heel manager or the other way around. This works in Japan because they don't have a weekly running TV show and their wrestling ethos is different. Doesn't work in America because wrestling and entertainment go hand in hand and people want concrete good and bad guys and STORIES BRO!
