VOLUME #2 • Jim Croce (Best of Jim...
Jim Croce was an influential American singer-songwriter whose musical career soared in the early 1970s.Born in 1943, Croce's journey to success began in Philadelphia, where he honed his musical skills and met his future wife, Ingrid Jacobson. Signing with ABC Records, Croce gained widespread recognition with hits like "You Don't Mess Around with Jim" and "Time in a Bottle." Tragically, at the peak of his fame, Croce's life was cut short in a fatal plane crash in 1973, leaving behind a rich legacy of heartfelt storytelling and folk-rock melodies. His timeless songs, such as "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" and "Operator (That's Not the Way It Feels)," continue to resonate with audiences, cementing his place as an enduring and
beloved figure in the music industry.

I know where the carwash Jim worked at, the building is still there and the Overhead door is now a concrete brick wall, it's part of Capital Cleaners in Niagara Falls NY, you would drive in off of Main Street and pull out onto Portage Road . I was a young boy and I road my red stingray bicycle from the old shit factory into the Niagara Gorge along the trails I'm scared to walk these days to Devil's Hole State Park and carried my bike up the stairs then road down Lewiston Road to Main Street to Portage Road and saw him sitting on a chair playing his acustic guitar 🎸 and singing and I hit my brakes and spun my rear tire around to listen as a big gold Caddy started to drive out and Jim placed his guitar 🎸 on his chair 💺 and asked me to keep an eye on it, when he was done wiping the water off that Caddy he rang the water off the towel and hung it on its bar, sat down and started playing his guitar 🎸 and singing and I asked are you famous. He replied I wish. I replied you will be soon your real good. Few years later I went home from high school for lunch and im watching the 12 noon news and they announced Jim Croce died in a plane crash and showed his picture 🖼️ and I said to myself that's that guy from the carwash. OMG , RIP Jim I said to myself. And in that song he mentioned Niagara Falls was the Worse time in his life, something like that. It was around 1964 I believe when I had a privet concert by Jim Croce

Born in '64, I was about 8 when I was first exposed to Jim Croce via my parents being a member of the CBS Record Club. For a penny that you taped to a postcard, and your 6 'album stamps', you could get those 6 albums for penny - you just had to buy one album at regular price. This was an amazing way to grow up in the 70's - because I collected a lot of music and would always fall back on this album and cry growing up - and some of Jim's song's still make me cry. Legendary to me. Thanks Jim.

So i heard operater start so i hurriedly started my recorder and went downstairs to tend a barking dog. Later i listened to the recording and found in one spot the volume level dropped and i heard a happy laugh for a few seconds. Never figured out what happened. But it did remind me of Jim. Yes, it's "Croce Plays Croce"--saw him live a few months ago and it was really cool. Story telling about his dad in between songs, about how he got his start and recorded so much music in such a short period of time. A good mix of Jim Croce's songs, his son's original music, and also some music that originally inspired Jim.

I listened to his songs in grade school in the seventies. What a good time to grow up in. No internet. Just wonder and discovery. If you wanted it you just had to make it happen. Pet rocks. Lol 🙂 have a nice day 🙂

such a tragic tale his life was cut so short and right at the pinnacle of his career. He lives on through his music, in my heart, (and piano) and in many others.
