Bob Holly's biggest achievement in WWE was somehow staying with the company for 15 years and only being relevant on the roster for about 2 years total during the entire time, the 1999-2000 period when he first became "Hardcore Holly" and reinvented himself as a staple of the hardcore division. But even after that flamed out he was never able to reinvent himself again. He was just kind of known as "that asshole from Tough Enough" to the modern generation.

The legacy of Bob Holly was he was involved in some of the most memorable injuries in wrestling
@higler.
@higler. 10 ай бұрын
Like what? He "hurt" Matt on tough enough by stiffing him with a few boots like would happen in any match throughout a wrestling career. Or do you mean when Brock dropped him and Bob broke his neck? They both agree and admit it was a botch and no one is to blame, and Bob didn't sandbag Brock. Or when he sliced his back open on the table? Bob was always known as locker room bully but I don't recall him beating the shit out of people like The Acolytes or anything. By all accounts, he was a safe in-ring worker, regardless of how you may feel about him personally.

Holly sandbagged on a superplex DDP was trying to do on him during a match, causing them to land wrong and effectively ending DDP's wrestling career. He didn't protect people during his matches. Nah dude, Holly was a dick but no sandbagging occurred. Earlier in the match Holly potatoed DDP (he had a reputation of being stiff with his punches), DDP was still groggy from the punch when he went for the superplex and messed it up, over-rotating so much that when he landed his body folded like a deck chair, damaging a disc in his back, he also gave Holly an unintentional receipt as his leg swung over and kicked Holly in the balls upon landing.

But it says a lot and I remember their kindness. Nothing against Al/Jessica I'm sure they have their reasons for standoffish. Their booker/promoter had other wrestlers stay as well in past and being a fan I would always give then friends/family discount, never asked anyone for autograph or photos except at the events if I was able to attend. Bob Holly 's book is a great read. Its the book about the guy who couldn't quite get the big break. Quite refreshing as most book were from big stars or main event talent. He strikes me as quite honest in the book and does make criticisms of HHH, Vince and others without coming across like he's bitter. He also isn't afraid to speak on his own shortcomings. I'm sure there's some BS in the book but at the same time it's a different kind of read. The book has somewhat of a happy ending where he locates his girlfriend from his teenage years and ended up marrying her after leaving WWE. Brian Gerwitz mentioned he eventually made peace with Holly. Obviously, not saying he was a wonderful guy.

I had no idea of the background of the business back in the day and lived in Ireland and didn't have the channels so I only got to watch the odd raw or smackdown but I usually saw the ppvs. What I did watch regularly was Heat. I remember Holly having a great match with Triple H when he had the world title and Stephanie had the woman's. Stephanie accompanied Triple H to the ring. Holly was besting Triple H and he had to resort to Stephanie interfering in the match, distracting the ref and throwing in the woman's belt for Triple H to steal the win.

I have heard all the main guys say nothing but good things about him. Only guys who didn't last and careers went nowhere I have heard complaining. Maven and charlie Haas off the top of my head were mentored under Bob. They talked about him being tough on them and looking back we're glad he was, even if they didn't feel the same way some days back then. Look at it logicaly= 1.They kept an asshole bully for 15 years who wasn't a draw only a carpenter because they wanted a cancer in the locker room? 2. The locker room leader The Undertaker took the Big show aside over an attitude problem must have been afraid to confront Bob over all these years of being a miserable prick and a bully.? It is not like he was in the BSK and it's not like he and the undertaker were overly close (mutual respect etc though) 3. He was an out-of-line A-hole to the young prospects coming in so they just kept putting the young guys with him as a mentorship position to show them the ropes hoping he would run them off? That makes absolutely no sense... Bob admits, he was tough on the new guys until they got it, how tough depended on how well they listened. Bob and others all say Bob was a straight cat who was going to sugar coat NOTHING and if they screwed up he would rip them a new one and tell them what they did wrong in no uncertain terms. Not the same thing as being a bully and picking on people for the sake of being an asshole wanting to make someone's life miserable

I think Bob's legacy is that of a guy who cared deeply about the business, and cared about doing things the right way, but went about expressing those beliefs in a way that made him utterly unlikeable to his fellow workers. Him delivering that beating on Tough Enough was really my last straw for him. Injuring other wrestlers could be chalked up to carelessness or just being too stiff.
