Cornette and Michaels could have made magic together either working against one another or possibly in alignment if only they could have gotten along backstage. But it was never meant to be as they got along as well as oil and water. But just picture Cornette managing a heel Michaels either along with or instead of Sherri Martel and/or working against Michaels uniting former friends and current foes of Michaels against him in an effort to attempt to dethrone a face Michaels as the WWE Champion. I could see Marty Jannetty returning to WWE after a lengthy absence and initially uniting with Michaels against Cornette and his group only to stab Michaels in the back as retribution for Michaels doing the same to him years earlier. The possibilities could have been endless, but it was moot as the two of them despised one another and wanted nothing to do with the other.

Cornette wouldve put himself over with the attitude era possibly in a way that wouldve outshone even Bobby Heenan. Unfortunately, for him, he had a gag reflex to cartoony sports entertainment the same way I react to raw white onion coming in contact with my taste buds. Truth be told tho...he had every tool that Heenan possessed in his own toolbox PLUS more. Corny was an intense promo sometimes to such a degree that you thought he was trying to put on a clinic for the wrestlers on how to do their jobs. Matches can be spectacular and all but looking back thru the history of the biz, shows like this one really emphasize the importance (rightly so) of a great talker. Roman Reigns as a babyface champ was such a great example of denying that reality. If Roman Reigns, an average worker can get the push whithout even being a good promo, why wouldnt you just put the belt on Cesaro? Go back and watch Vince interviewing Bruno Sammartino. He was the champ for 9 years. Cesaro sounds like him when he gets on the mic. The difference between he and Reigns being that every time you watch Cesaro, you say to yourself, "That dude is awesome". The clusterfunk theyve been in for such a long time regarding a bad presentation would possibly never exist with Corny heading creative. I think he's such a great educator and student of the business that he would roll with some angles even if he didnt like it, so long as it put asses in seats. The old formulas for success will always work. Even with books, there are only so many stories to tell. The formulas work, the match matters the most tho. The Rock was a great promo but it didnt get real until he was setting up the peoples elbow. WWE has gotten away from what really matters. Its the payoff, the last chapter. Corny gets it and its a damn shame that they view him in a negative way cause they dont like "wrasslin".
