The medallion fund was something everyone could invest in at first. Only in 1993, after a few years of ridiculous results did they change it so that only employees can own a part of it, Truth is it functioned like an ordinary ETF at first!

Started my portfolio last year with SCHD, VOO, and VUG after watching one of your videos. In terms of share price, VOO is way up (22.25%) and VUG is waaaaay up (39.62%). Thanks for the education!

Isn't VOO and VUG similar in the sense both are investing in the S&P 500? What is the difference? I thought it is generally advised against to invest in multiple ETFs or Mutual Funds?
@PatrickLloyd-
@PatrickLloyd- 9 күн бұрын
There is 55% overlap with the holdings in VOO and VUG. 1 is tech heavy and the other is financials heavy similar, but not the same. VOO tracks the S&P 500; VUG is just focused on large cap growth stocks. VUG is a bit more volatile, but with a higher upside potential. VOO is a bit safer. I’ve never heard anyone advise against multiple ETFs/mutual funds. You just have to be aware of overlap. You don't have to act on every forecast, so I'll suggest that you work with a financial advisor who can help you choose the best times to purchase and sell the shares or ETFs you want to acquire.

I have a 3 fund portfolio consisting of 33% S&P, 33% Total stock, and 33% international. I feel a need to focus on complete growth so I went 100% stocks, but does the SP500 and TSM overlap too much to make sense holding both? However I’ve been in the red for a month now. I work hard for my money, so investing is making me a nervous sad wreck. I don’t know if I should sell everything, sit and just wait but watching my portfolio of $450k dwindle away is such an eye -sore.

The idea of investing a significant sum of money may be both thrilling and intimidating. There is potential for considerable wealth increase with the correct strategy. How can one take advantage of compound interest and potentially grow your retirement savings to about $1M over time?
@Tonyham198
@Tonyham198 8 ай бұрын
Most newbies either do not understand the power of compound interest, or are just impatient. For the average Joe, however, I think it is just best to invest in the S&P500, and just wait, which is reliable, albeit extremely long-- lots of years. Or just use a professional analyst and speed up wealth creation. Most people underestimate the power of the latter.

I’m already dollar cost averaging but I’ve been holding onto a lot of cash as well. I recently put most of it into stocks because it was just sitting there. Most of it went to dividend stocks so I’m not too worried. The goal is to invest for dividend and the stocks were at a recent low so I’m not worried long term. Sooner I start the more dividends I’ll have to reinvest.
@alexyoung3126

Dividends are dope. Personally, I sometimes use my dividends to buy other dividend and growth stocks for diversification instead of reinvesting in the same stock. To each their own methods though. The system is failing as a result of both government and federal policy. In the next days, the banking crisis would have to be epic and gigantic for the FED to decide not to raise interest rates. This won't happen; an increase and a crash are coming. There will be more negative portfolios this 2nd half of 2023 with markets tumbling, soaring inflation, and banks going out of business. Simons did this with the computing power of the 1990's onwards. If wouldn't have been able to do this in the 1960's the computers back then wouldn't have been able to access the huge historical database he uses to identify patterns. What the other investors did, they largely did without computers. Ed Thorp, also a mathematician did quite well without extensive databases.

The growth in the annual deficit under Trump ranks as the third-biggest increase, relative to the size of the economy, of any U.S. presidential administration. The federal debt held by the public went up from *$14.4 trillion* to *$21.6 trillion**². By the end of fiscal year 2020, the debt was **$26.9 trillion**, and Trump added **$6.7 trillion* to the debt between fiscal year 2017 and fiscal year 2020. 💙

the best market strategy is to work with a credible investing coach. Since a while ago, I've been in touch with a coach, mostly because I lack the depth of understanding and mental toughness to deal with the ongoing market conditions. My opinion for young people is you need to be both a dividend investor and a growth investor, basically how i made my first million also i use an FA, Olivia Rene Reyes. I started by investing $70k with her and she tripled it in 2 months and since then we've been doing business but i digress, so for example if I just got a 1000% gain on Tesla and then pulled 85% of the money out and went into a load of more stable dividend stocks like CVX So I would say diversify, but also use those growth opportunities to build the capital to invest in the dividend payers (or in cash flowing real estate)

Jim Simons had a 66% return per year across a 31 year time span by doing short term trading, but how much of that did he have to give back to the government in the form of sort-term capital gains taxes? That most likely made his returns a lot less impressive. Long-term investing meaning buy and hold in a corporation or trust, then using cheap loans to cash out without taking a big tax hit on long-term capital gains, and finally retaining those valuable assists that can be inherited by your children or other relatives through trusts is a great way to create generational wealth by keeping more of it or all of it.
