Life & Death in the Arctic: A 36-Day Man / Dog Winter Expedition Across the Wild Ungava Peninsula (Full Documentary)
🌬️ Join me, Jim Baird, and my steadfast companion, Buck, on an uncharted odyssey through "Life & Death in the Arctic: A 36-Day Man/Dog Winter Expedition Across the Wild Ungava Peninsula." This genuine 2016 expedition begins in Kanguqsujuaq, Quebec, along the Hudson Strait. From ascending a 2000-foot plateau to discovering the enigmatic Pingualuit Crater-an ancient meteorite impact site-the journey unfolds authentically.
⛰️ Navigating north along the Povungantuk River, we confront the harsh reality of Arctic blizzards, all documented firsthand as I filmed every moment myself. This isn't just about showcasing the Arctic's raw beauty; it's an unfiltered tale of survival and the relentless pursuit of the unknown. Feel the authenticity as I share moments when bone-chilling cold and blinding storms made me question the essence of this daring expedition.
🌨️ Beyond the breathtaking landscapes, "Life & Death in the Arctic" is a personal account of resilience and silent camaraderie. Every step, every challenge, is captured authentically as Buck and I push the boundaries of exploration. This documentary stands apart, filmed entirely by me, making it a raw and real experience that surpasses anything you'll find on TV. Join us in uncovering the untamed spirit of the Arctic in a narrative that's as genuine as the frozen landscapes we traversed. 🏔️🐾
Later this year (among other things), I would go on to canoe across much of Northern Saskatchewan and then went on History Channel's self-shot survival series ALONE Season 4.

Hey mate, I don’t even know where to begin. I watched that over four nights and it was an absolute epic. I really felt like I was there at times (I absolutely was not, I was in bed during an Australian summer) you did such a wicked job of documenting that trip. Buck is a bloody bad ass! I smiled every time you turned the camera back to watch him hauling that sled in the distance 😂 That is a true example of man’s best friend right there. He’s proven that he’ll follow you no matter where you go. Yeah, don’t know what else to say other than I thoroughly enjoyed this film man, and it’s awesome that you get to live out your dreams of exploration. Another inspiration of mine over the last few years and definitely a reason I’ve managed to make this KZfaq adventuring my full time gig now as well. Thank you dude 🙏 Give Buck a pat for me. He deserves it.

This leaves me speechless. A death-defying venture, and you did it! So scary to get so low on food in that frigid tundra, all the blizzards you had to contend with, just a fight to stay alive. What a relief it must've been to make it to Hudson Bay. Wow. Just wow. Buck was such a trooper! Thanks for filming this adventure even amidst horrific conditions. Take care.

Great adventure and video Jim. The Inuit villagers coming out to the cabin were just keeping an eye on you, and quite right too - they did know you would be up for the challenge, and better safe than sorry.
@JimBairdAdventurer
@JimBairdAdventurer 4 ай бұрын
No, they didn’t ski-doo there to keep an eye on me. It was the same group I had gone under the sea ice with. It was a groups of high school grads from various Nunavik communities participating in a program where they do several things like this across the region. They had the Pingualuit Crater trips planned well in advance and it was just a coincidence that I saw them again there. I thought I’d be past there hey then but in was a day late getting there and then I was pinned down by weather.

Thanks, sometimes he was actually the opposite but summertimes he was. Similar to what a human would be. He lined the 8 hour a day walk though. Big time. When we got home, he’d run to the does and bark at the door knob , looking back at me and then at the door again thinking, when the heck is the 8 hour a day walk was going to commence.
