JIMBO'S GARAGE

JIMBO'S GARAGE

4 жыл бұрын

I welded this modern metal screen wall for a client. It is very unique and I have not welded or built something like this before. There are two parts to this project so be sure to watch the metal gate portion to this video.

Still enjoying the vids, Jim! 40 posts to grind, ha, I said, oh man, before you even said anything. Nice work. Like the longer vids. Still would like to hear you burning things in a little...

Great video and project! I guess the reason you got so little distortion is your welds were very even and consistent so it got pulled the same on all sides. Also the joint was the same all the way around, not like a table leg where there are usually fillets on only two sides that pull a bit more than the sort of edge joints on the other two sides.

That is definitely form over function, those pillars will bend really easy. Nevertheless, another great video!

I thought the same thing. I would have been so easy to run a piece of flat strap around the top.
@dylanpeterson3490
@dylanpeterson3490 3 жыл бұрын
It would look more "finished" with a strap around the top, or if there were pieces of strap like 6" down from the top. The second would have more of the original look, without being able to bend them out of the way, likely by hand.

Nice work! Looks like your welding table is working out good for you. I'm trying to decide whether I want to get a Certi-Flat, a Tab and Slot or a Strong-Hand Tools table. Any advice is appropriated!

I find that with bigger grits, a momentary loss of concentration ends up in grinding a divot into the metal. 60 grit is safer.

Do you ever chemically treat the inside of the tube to prevent rusting from the inside out if water gets in?
@thisdj83
@thisdj83 4 жыл бұрын
Mike it’s actually best to not completely seal weld tube like this because it will fill with condensation. Always leave one side open. Or drill a small hole.

To avoid to see the welding, why didn’t you screw the vertical bars to the horizontal one. That’s not visible and maybe a bit less boring to do....however you did a very good job.

For me setting all of them up in a row and doing one side before flipping them seems to be a little faster but either way it sucks to do.lol.

I'm sorry, but taking the easy way out was a bad idea, you would have had a MUCH better finished project if you had bit the bullet and finished it out with the TIG. But if you don't have the skills, I guess stick to the wire feed.
