the whole garage 56 thing is a designate for prototypes that do not meet le mans rules. typically its technology demonstrators or in this case, a race car from a totally different discipline

It's kind of crazy - a lot of Endurance cars have butterfly doors to make it as easy as possible to change over drivers. It's cool that they are doing it the traditional way for a Nascar.

That's why the General Lee on the Dukes of Hazzard had welded doors. Just like NASCAR.

Also the net (or to be precise the lack of window) has a negative effect in aero = less top speed and the fact in the rain water will leak (not to mention NASCAR has almost zero experience in wet conditions).

@@Gatotsu2009 Nascar has been racing in the rain on road courses for years across all it's series. Rain won't be a problem.

@@Glitchunlocked yes, but the experience of european drivers vs americans in wet conditions is abbysmal. Well, at the end they only have to be competitive and finish the race because they want to test this car for the upcoming "next gen".

@@Glitchunlocked it depends on how much rain, since the rain was a slight issue for the car at the Glen last year, but they were actually quicker on the wet tire in the heat races for the All Star Race at North Wilkesboro... Only to have multiple rain delays for the Coca-Cola 600 without even attempting to put on the rain tire (even though that tire is actually available to use at all the tracks excluding Atlanta, Daytona, Talladega, Dover and both Bristol Dirt and Concrete)

not the first time for a nascar stock car at the 24h. first was a hemi charger and the second was a torino. when the torino was there on practice day, the fans would hang close to the trakc on mulsanne as they were used to small sports cars going past. Brooks told the story of the first at speed lap down thru there, said it was like pulling a harrow thru soil..all the air coming off that big car have people scrambling for cover..next time thru Brooks said all he saw was heads and cameras popping out from behind trees lol

Isn't a class of it's own? It's racing against GTEs but in technicality it's alone.

They are not really competing against anyone, since the Garage 56 entries don't have to comply with the WEC/Le Mans regulations. They may tune the car as they please. GTE class is restricted by regulations and BoP, so they will never get a chance to show their full potential in a sanctioned event. This is the last year for GTE Am anyway, while GTE Pro already retired last year. GTE is dead, GT3 is the future. I'd like to see a GTE team max out a GTE car next year and smash some GT track records. Kinda like what Porsche did when they retired their 919 Hybrid Evo, by removing all the regulation based restrictions and broke the Nordschleife track record.

But forst it has to survive 3000+ miles when they are used to doing 600 max! I hope it makes the finish as it will be great for publicity.

Jensen still races in GT3 as well as being a McLaren GT3 team owner.

It's actually just 2 km/h quicker than the GTEs on the straight.

@@Maenfy JB covered that in an interview. They are quicker to top speed because of the V8 torque, but the spoiler drags the top speed down.

They are now 10-12 kph faster in the straights. They are gapping GTEs more each testing sessoon.

It sure does! And several knobs to adjust fuel mixtures, brake bias, traction control and the ABS settings. There’s also a screen in the centre of the wheel that gives tire pressure/temps, sector times and lap times. Lots of adjustability and information!

Jensen Button and Jimmie Johnson are about the same size drivers, and I’m not sure about Mike Rockefeller but they use a padded insert that’s custom molded for each driver’s butt and can be quickly removed and the other driver’s inserted. This has been used in sports car endurance racing for decades. The seat is mounted for the tallest driver and each driver’s padded insert adjusts for variations in driver seating position.

It is racing in its own class but is closest to GTE, Being about 5 seconds quicker. It's there more for cool factor and spectacle, Which is much needed imo.
