My MIL was a fan of Nick Clooney and sent Christmas presents to George and his siblings when then were children. They always sent her handwritten thank you letters. (We assume they were required to do so, but it was a kind gesture nonetheless.) When she was in the hospital, close to death, Nick was there visiting a friend. Nick remembered her and came to visit her. It was a highlight of her life. They are a gracious family.

I was in the USN in 1972 and in England. My shipmates and I got into the wrong train car. We didn't notice that we were in first class without the proper tickets. The conductor took our tickets and saw we weren't supposed to be in first class. He stared at us and asked straight away if were French. When we told him we were American he paused and then said, "You can stay". God help us if we had been French! Evidently the Brits can keep a grudge. Great book. Will see the movie on Christmas day.

1972-1939=33 yrs. That's when London started being bombed. He knew we funded & supplied weapons. Many of our pilots flew w RAF b4 Pearl Harbor. We, took the brunt of damage on 6/5/44. At Normandy. Many of our servicemen brought English brides back. If he was old nuff, he knew.

I wrote letters, short ones, from the Tooth Fairy and Santa and others,,,had to write it in a different fancy script!!! They loved it and I kept the letters for them!! Imagination is a great gift we give to our kids!!!

My memory of Clooney returning to my college as an alumni: My very pretty roommate got dolled up to try to connect with him. She was beautiful, and she met him and got a chance to connect, and he struck her down, politely. I have respected him so much more since then. I never met another man who turned her down, but he made a wise choice. He has good character.

My fifth birthday all the guys in the neighborhood gave me gifts, taught me how to swing on the swing set, about the birds & bees, how to French kiss, about the tooth the fairy, Easter bunny and Santa Clause. Worst was how to French kiss. My dad was a med student and a germ-a-phob.
