When my husband was living, we would go cut our own tree, but it was the experience we were paying for - the time together, the picking out the right tree, the walking together in a forest of trees, etc. - not just the tree. When he died, I bought an artificial tree and I've had it for over 15 years. It holds our ornaments, doesn't need watering, and rather than drag it off to the curb in January, I just pack it up again. Speaking of which, this weekend I will put it together again and put it in the window for my neighbors to enjoy (which they have told me they do). Pretty nice Christmas tradition, actually.

Being a Brit I've spent most of my years on earth thinking the standard of living in the UK and the US are pretty much the same. Since the first lockdown and me taking up social media, I've realised I was totally wrong. The US is obscenely wealthy even compared to western Europe. I had an epiphany watching spring breakers partying in Florida. The kids were dripping with wealth, bling, clothes, cars, at a level that I normally only witness in the movies. The US economy and military have dwarfed every other country since 1945. The bleating, mainly from those on the right, about how it's all so unfair on the US is a delusional lie. The US has basically made up the rules and run the world since the war. Hearing the tale of woe told by fascists like trump is sickening.

The U. S. has a greater disparity between rich and poor, and the gap keeps widening. The minority who are wealthy tend to be very wealthy while the majority struggle to pay the rent and buy groceries.

Here it's 5 something at our location store. And they serve the poor people. They're the only store who lets the regulars take carts home. The dollar general next door gets their carts stolen all the time... so often that they order new carts several times a year. The store next door pays a guy with a pickup 20 bucks a week to gather them up around the neighborhood.

I've recently tried it with peas and mashed sweet potato... surprisingly good! Shepherd's Pie is a hearty meal, yet reasonably inexpensive and easy to make. Why the name didn't adapt to the meat and become Cowboy Pie, I do not know. ;-]

I remember when you went to a lot and found a tree, 25 was overpriced but it was 7 ft high and almost perfect. But yet your husband says it's too high so you go over the lot for an hour and a half, the argument getting bigger by the minute. Then the argument hits its peak, the ultimatum "pick a tree or I'm leaving" comes along so I just point to a tree for my husband to grab... We get the $25 tree home put it in the stand step back only to realize the trunk is is literally in the shape of an S and won't stand straight.. You then grab a coat hook and fishing line and tie it to the wall to hold it as straight as you can get it..... That's the last real tree we ever got......true story, it was in like 93.......also we're divorced now. Just saying...... Lol

I know this is unrelated but I'd like other people's opinion. late night Wars are over and they're all Buds and they should be. We all watch every late night show. Was Stephen Colbert being ill and Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers on sabbatical or vacation whatever you call it. I would like to see one of them step in and be a guest host for Stephen Colbert. I really would like to see Guest House come back so we get shows when the regular host doesn't want to be there for whatever reason or can't be there for whatever reason. Jay Leno and David Letterman got their starts in late night being guest hosts. Anyway it's just a thought

I live in NC and I shop at Publix, 85/15 ground beef was $3.27/lb today. A half gallon of milk was $2.49, and a dozen large eggs was $2.39. A loaf of fresh sourdough from the bakery was $3.49, and Kerrygold butter has been the same price, $4.99, since before covid. I don't think those are ridiculously high prices. If you're paying $6/lb for ground beef, you're probably buying the overpriced prepackaged grass fed free range A-5 Wagyu ground beef, you elitist.

Newport RI. Quality eggs are still at least $4-5 here on "the island". Today I got a 12 pk of mini diet cokes and 1 bag of groceries. $57. Organic Irish butter 3.99 1/2 lb. Bacon $10/lb. Healthy grain bread $5, Ezekiel would be $8. If I travel 1/2 hr to MA, I can get better prices.

I'm from nc. I shop mainly at food Lion and I haven't bought a pound of 85/15 ground beef for under $5 a pound in many years.
