Yes, that's a good observation. He knew when to go static on the lines, and then when to go melodic on the lines. His rhythm on the bass also pushes the song along, like an engine. As you astutely observed, Matt, Mac did a good job on that bass line. That was perfect for the song. Honestly, Jimmy could have farted over the top of that rhythm section, during the solo, and it would have worked.

Time for a new comment-- The year was 1975/76 and I was a young rebel who thought that he knew everything... so i left New York city and headed down to Hallandale Florida for some sun, women, and gambling. Of course i brought my guitar, had a Strat, which i still play today, but along with some other ones. Jimmy was one of my idles. Alright so we all were 'dopes' back then, but who cared? Went to work at Dania Jai Jali punching tickets for the '' Telebet '' girls (30 of them and just me punching tickets, thank you Lord) at the Fronton. Joined a band and did some local clubs and different gigs here and there. I tried to play like Jimmy, but you can't do better than the best...Best time of my life! Women, money, music, mood changers, beaches, had it all... and lost it all gambling... But Jimmy was my inspiration so i finally realized you can't win at horses and other various gambling types of things i did. But my life is based on Jimmy McCulloch. He was about my age, and could play the sand off the beach! Then one day, i heard Jimmy died of a drug over dose,,, i couldn't believe, some (expletive deleted) probably gave him bad dope. So i will end it here, but just wanted you younger people to know that life was much better then than now. So any young rebels out there, you are not as smart as you think,,, i know you will have to find out the hard way like i did,,, but if you can, sell your bike and invest it in an education so you don't end up old and broke like me.

@@chrome50 Thanks, and like you said, "time moves on". So you are probably my age plus or minus... and a person does learn as 'old mother time' keeps moving (Probably on a Harley), we keep learning new things. But I certainly like the 'good old days' a lot more than the 'now days', since I have too many ailments to even start listing them. I guess we pay a price for having fun when we were young, but I wish it wasn't so expensive. (But then (and not to be prejudice) most of the women I have been with want nice things, and it is not in the dictionary, but nice means expensive!

I wish in some ways PMC would have chosen the route of sharing the lime light position, instead of just being the boss of a band. He seems to really shine when some one else is the center of attention. Almost as if he can kick back a bit and just have some fun.... Can't say it enough, this really kicks.

Jimmy was my classmate in school at Cumbernauld, Bonnie Scotland & didnt have a farm or sheep! He was a nice quiet kid with hair & gear that made me jealous. I joined army & in 1969 on TOTP was Jimmy with Thunderclap Newman. One hit wonder but a great one. Ok Jimmy and Macca. He composed 2 songs with Wings that Paul incredulously, for him, allowed to be on Wings albums. Not composed with Paul, just stand alone by Jimmy & also in concert at their best period (Paul really enjoys playing this as its a funky little number). Jimmy is the only person as a band member to have ever done this whether The Beatles or John Paul George. And Paul is the most controlling so its surprising he allowed it. Denny Laine never had this tho he co-composed with Paul. Well done Jimmy, you would have been a multi millionaire mate. Still family gets it. His first group, One in a Million, was with his brother & he snuck of school to go to Decca, London to cut a single which sank without trace tho he did meet the Stones. Jealous again. Miss you mate.

I experimented with substances in the 70's and it didn't turn out well. In fact I was declared clinically dead twice before I turned 21. I decided drugs weren't my friends. I still don't think they are. If I had been able to realize that alcohol wasn't my friend either I could have avoided becoming an alcoholic but thank God I've been sober for over 27 years. I'm also tired of watching people enslave themselves to drugs to death. It's frustrating and heartbreaking to watch them destroy their souls and the souls of all that love them.

Great video, incredible. I saw him do this in Detroit. He was a small man, that I remember and he sang this with gusto - real emotion. Sorry he's gone on to the the great gig in the sky. May he be blessed by a Power greater than himself.

That concert film is still my favorite by far, the Talking Heads Stop Making Sense comes in a distant second....Jimmy was a treasure...and people forget how good Paul was on bass! He was almost as good as John McVie!

A really tight band and somehow "refreshing" to see Paul take a backseat on stage, something that's been unimaginable since he "came back" in 1989...

Wee Jimmy was the best guitarist in any band Macca ever assembled. I had a record in my collection decades ago of Jimmy's band, Stone the Crows, before he joined Wings. Great album.
