In this longer episode we are testing the abilities of the standard Jimny suspension against a few aftermarket suspensions available . We also have some great fun on the more extreme obstacles at Moegatle 4x4.

Great video. It may not be clear in the video that the Des-Sol kit is a complete kit including headlight leveling bracket, extended brake lines and a high clearance cross member

I have the De-sol setup in my Gen3 as well. very happy. with it. Done around 60k km on it now heavily loaded all the time on very bad gravel roads and offroad outings (this year not so much - rebuilt my sj as well + covid). This was a entertaining Video.. Vic has no fear..

Very informative video. Have you tried the Ironman suspension and what is your thoughts?

Had a drive in one fitted with Ironman , and found it a bit hard. They also just provide you with coils and ahocks , and not a full kit that includes , brake line extensions , ABS relocation or the cross member relocation bracket. So end of the day the Tough Dog kit still trumps it on price and you get a full kit that has been developed for the Jimny.

Really interesting video. I have the tough dog suspension fitted and heading to Moegatle next weekend 😬 Out if interest (and also to possibly know my limits) which was the obstacle that the jeep could do and the jimny could not?

Hi thanks for the support. Moegatle is a tough place , you really need to know your Jimny well , to do some of the more extreme obstacles without denting your jimny. So rather take it easy and leave some of the more extreme obstacles to the jeeps , shame their accesories cost so much. Make shure you have rocksliders and radial cups before you go there , and go and enjoy👍

Hello . How long did it take to fit the Tough Dog suspension kit on Your Jimny ?

The installation always takes between 3-4 hours , you must just get wheel alignment done after the installation.

Did Vic use the factory steel rims for the rock grabber tyres?

Yes I believe those are Suzuki Steel rims , they are the lightest steel rims availible for the Jimny.

May be a stupid question from my side . You recomend thé Tough Dog 40 mm Kit , does it mean the suspension are 40 mm longer than the standard one provided by Suzuki ?

Hey , Jean-Luc , yes the suspension increases your vehicle height by 40mm.

Nice video ! Thanks ! I have 31x10.5x15 tires from my previous Jeep. What kind of lift would I need on my Jimny to install them ?

You will have to look at a 60mm-80mm lift , just know those tyres will influence fuel consumption and performance alot , so if you just using it as 4x4 toy sure , but if you want a all rounder I would suggest 235/75R15 40mm-60mm suspension or for overlanding 215/75R15 no lift required but the Tough Dog 40mm works great for me .

@@miguelcanasvergara8770 I prefer OME , but its very expensive , I would rate the Tough Dog suspension as great value for money and you have a choice from 40mm up to 80mm. With a 2 inch lift the 235 tyres will look great and perform great.

Very informative video as always. Is the Des Sol suspension for Jimny now out of development? How do they compare now in 2022 with Tough Dog and Old Man Emu? Thank you for the great videos on this channel.

Hi Adelle yes the Des Sol is out of development , its a good cheaper option , but if asked what is the best suspension upgrade , I will stick to Tough Dog , mine has 60k km on now and its still good as new and mine takes a beating on road and off road its really worth the money.

@@adelle.nothnagel Tough Dog has foamcell shocks , that have been developed for the Jimny , OME similar but just the coils and shocks cost more than the full Tough Dog kit you get with cross member relocation ect. Des Sol have Safari HDP shocks that is very old technology oil shocks that dont disipate heat as well as foam cell does, and not made specific for the Jimny , if I am not mistaken its for an Isuzu bakkie. Thus for price and performance Tough Dog beats OME and Des Sol.

Hello dear, Very nice video and al uploaded video are very intresting. Can I ask just a few questions about che Jimny with the japanese flag on the roof. Can you tell me what kind of modification they did?!?! Suspension kit, any modification like exaust or rims and tyres. I realy appreciate.

Hi Alessandro , thanks for the comment , that is an auto jimny with Des-Sol 50mm suspension , Des-Sol front and rear bumper , 235/75R15 Good year Wrangler tyres , Des-Sol rocksliders and Radial cup protectors , no engine upgrades . Also note he removed the swaybar which is not recommended at all for road use.

Hi. I really enjoyed your video clip on the suspension comparison. I got the Amada suspension on my Jimny Gen 3. Very happy with it. Would be interesting to know if they also cater for the Jimny Gen 4. I see on their web that they now offer Bilstein shocks. Any Jimny owners comments on their experience with either the Amada or Bilstein systems? Keep up the good work and keep those videos rolling. Hein

Thanks Hein , I actually know Cobus from Amada quite well we use to compete in the Bridgestone competition , will have a chat with him about the Gen 4 suspension. On the Bilstein shocks , the Ford and Toyota guys seems quite happy with them , but with like most of these systems the coils are just as important and I feel that we need to get that fine tuned a bit more with the South African manufactured ones.

Any idea who supplies and fits the Top Dog suspension kits in Durban area

Hi Peter , the Tough Dog suspension is distributed by Opposite Lock in South Africa , and if you have a local 4x4 specialist they can order and install the suspension for you. Alternatively you can give Darryl from Opposite Lock a call and he will help you (082 447 4872). After the installation you will have to do wheel alignment , so look at a Tyre shop that can do 4x4 wheel alignment for the best results.

Ironman , also has the foam cell shocks like Tough Dog , but they dont offer a full suspension kit like Tough Dog does , and thats a deal breaker for me , you need those extras installed with your suspension to get the full benefit , swopping just coils and shocks will not suffice.

Hi Gerhard there are a few new additions as suspension options for the Jimny , its just difficult to get owners with those diffrent setups to join us for a test , I will attempt to do an update on this video which is a bit overdue.

Tough Dog supplies a full suspension kit which Ironman does not , you need everything in the suspension kit to ensure your suspension works 100% , my preffered size of tyre is 215/75R15 , have a look at the tyre related videos on the channel.

Yes , I have done almost 60k km with my Tough Dog suspension , and it does not sag under heavy loads , and does not bottom out at all , the ride stays nice and solid.
