There is bugger all difference in overall diameter between the standard tyres and the 215-75 r15's only, a millimetre or two. The bfg's have a heavier load rating and stronger sidewalls, you may want to take this into account when inflating/deflating them.

AT 235/75R15 work very well on stock, just very low rubbing when the wheel is all the way inside, so unless you are doing very sharp turns the tire fits perfectly without issues. Ive been using that AT tire for a year without a lift kit. MT tire might be different, i have not tested that one yet. Recommendation for the video improvement: you might not want to talk for so long with this voice register, it makes ppl lose focus and watch other videos. Keep pushing :)

Hi Renato , thank you for the comment , I did state in my video that the 235/75 will fit , but it does rub at flex and in my book that is not a proper fit and can cause damage to your car and tyres when using it off road , I will still recommend a decent suspension if you are planning to fit 235 tyres on a Jimny . Thanks for the tip on my videos , hopefully they will get better :) as we progress.

How much more ground clearance you get after the BF Goodrich? (with stock suspension)
@justjimny
@justjimny 3 жыл бұрын
Hi , there is not a major increase in the ground clearance with the 215 tyres , I would say I wanted a tyre more suited to off-road terrain and that had better side wall protection without losing power. Here is a nice website where you can play around with tyre sizes and see how much ground clearance you get with different sizes of tyres and rims : tiresize.com/tyre-size-calculator/

Hi Greg on my JB43 I tried Plastidip , it did a good job against small scratches , but with the JB74 the rim design is wrong and I think protection like Plastidip will not provide enough protection. Maybe a stronger coating like Raptor will provide more protection.

What are the drawbacks of 215/70R15 tyres? 75 better only for offroad?
@justjimny
@justjimny 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Theofanis , the 70 profile limits the groung clearance you normally gain , with the 215/75R15 , thats why the standard Dunlops in the test video struggled a bit on the obstacles , having that few milimeters extra ground clearance helps alot offroad , and aswell when you deflate your tyres for better grip. Thanks for the support👍

Auto jimny more on city driving: 215/80 R15 wont need to change stock suspension? Hancook all terrain is okay? Or do you have any other recommendation?
@justjimny
@justjimny 2 жыл бұрын
Hi , Auto is great for city driving and 4x4 , I still suggest 215/75R15 since the 215/80R15 will effect performance and consumption , both these sizes fit on standard suspension , although I do reccomend a suspension upgrade since the stock suspension is soft and does effect handeling. Des Sol is a budget suspension that works for day to day and the Tough Dog 40mm is the best suspension you can add to your Jimny , and the favourite mod I have done thus far to my Gen4.

Just go smaller than a 75% profile if you want to fit wider tyres. I have 255/60 which are a nice width for lower ground pressure on wet & boggy ground and the 60% profile means they fit just fine on a stock mk3.

There are a couple of false assertions here: 1. On stock tyres the JB74 speedo is approx 5% optimistic. As a result 235/75 tyres actually leave the odometer MORE accurate than do the 215/75 tyre. 2. For complex reasons the 235/75 tyres have minimal effect on real-world fuel economy over the 215/75 tyre. The trip meter's nominal fuel economy reading will indeed be inflated by the increased gearing, however this change is illusory, and not reflected in actual economy, which will only negligibly increase. Otherwise enjoyable viewing though, and thanks for the vid.
@justjimny
@justjimny 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Terry , thank you for the comment , I just want to say that I may not have the 235's fitted , but I did do a bit of home work and checked with a few of my Suzuki Jimny friends that fitted the 235's on their JB74 (Manual and Auto) and that is the feedback they gave me. I trust these guys since we have been doing 4x4 trails , competitions and overlanding for about 10 years in Jimnies now . I guess there could be multiple factors that influence the tyre sizes eg. just the weight difference between tyre brands could have an impact.
@terrysketcher9752
@terrysketcher9752 3 жыл бұрын
I feel sure that the reports you're hearing of significantly increased fuel use with 235/75 tyres will be the result of drivers simply reporting the figure off the economy meter. For that reading to be accurate it needs to be adjusted up by 5.6%. Did your friends make this adjustment? The extra weight in the tyres is rotating, and so in general it is retained and returned when coasting. The only time it is lost is under braking. Driven efficiently 235 tyres use minimally more fuel than do 215 tyres. I realise this might sound counter intuitive...but it's just how physics works.
@justjimny
@justjimny 3 жыл бұрын

IMHO, the reason why heavier tyres equates proportionally to fuel consumption are on starting and stopping. It requires more power to start turning the tyres which requires more fuel. On stopping, the heavier tyres generates higher inertia which are again an energy wasted on stopping, also translates to fuel consumption. Additionally it consumes more breakpads and poor breaking performance as the breakpads receives all the wasted energies.

@@justjimny The BFG was very disappointing on my land cruiser 79. Although I rotated them (+ alignment) every 8k they become impossible to balance at around 38,000km.
