I never knew Drachinifel was a Drum Major.... I am a Yank here, but descended of Scottish blood. MacAndrew(s). They dropped the Mac when they came to America in the 1800s. My mom would not let my dad listen to the Pipes at home. they drove her nuts... I guess you either love or hate the bagpipes and drums! We would listen to Bluegrass and Scottish Pipe and Drum music when Mom was not around. I have always been very proud of my Scottish heritage, Back in the early 80s or so, my Cousin was stationed around Europe in the Military and did a deep dive in to our family history. We re- discovered our family Crest and Tartar and traced our lineage back to St. Andrew. To go any further back would have taken more money than he had at the time. On my bucket list is a trip to Scotland to see a REAL Scottish Military pipe and drum parade and to visit St. Andrews golf course, and take in the beautiful countryside. Just imagine being the enemy, hearing this coming for several hours, knowing that each beat of that drum brought many angry Scottsmen one step closer to you. It is truly amazing how the bagpipes can be mournful, uplifting and cheerful, and terrifying all at the same time. it brought a tear to my eye. When they passed the Veterans, and they called BATTALION, EYES RIGHT, SALUTE and the vets said SCOTLAND SALUTES wow, what a moment of shared respect. I am far away but my heart is in Scotland.

around 12:20 when those vets are lined up and that old salt calls to salute is my favorite part. just makes me smile. those old dogs looking into the faces that are the future of their nation's security, and those men in the parade looking to the faces who protected their nation in the past. what an awesome moment.

I agree 100%. One of the few times I marched soldiers in formation as a Lieutenant (US Army), there was a group of WW2 vets standing nearby for a reunion, visiting the post. I'm still not 100% sure but I thought I spotted a Medal of Honor on one of their necks (several awardees of the medal lived in the area at the time). I called an "eyes right" and saluted them as went past. Later, a couple of NCOs came up and said they thought I had lost my mind with that order, UNTIL they saw the veterans at the curb. One said, "That was a class act, Sir," which I still consider one of the best compliments I ever got from an NCO.

Hey next time you are looking for a pipe band I recommend checking out a parade the Waterbury Police Pipes & Drums are playing. Or if you want more in the Fall at the Goshen fair there is often a Highland Games where they do massed bands. Not quite this level, of course, but still really great for local bagpipe bands!

@@smacwhinnie It might be needed, but I think they're more ceremonial, especially considering there's no police, I think what happened was the CO went "Oh fuck I forgot to book the cops", RSM: "I've got a bunch of misfits, let me sort it" and wallah.

My mother was upset at the French for the debacle in 1940, and I was a bun in the oven. She asked for the name of an ancestor who we knew fought the French in the field. Thus, I am James Stuart, named after a private (later a captain) in the Black Watch who fought the French at Fontenoy. Alas, a French victory, but you can't have everything. A fine parade. A fine regiment.

How I love the sound of a bag pipe. The drum section is what keeps everyone marching to the beat. Thus there is usually no break for the drum section but to play on the entire length of the parade. At least, that's how it was when I played in a marching bank and, yes, I played the snare drum.

Hello from Perth Edit: if you wish to follow the route via Google Maps, the parade started at the base of Mill Street at the Perth Concert Hall and headed East towards the Perth and Kinross Council offices and turned left onto Kinoull Street, crossing onto Scott Street, the Tresspass store and church spire seen along the route is where Kinoull Street, Scott Street and the High Street meet, High Street continues from the church spire visible when passing Tresspass on down behind the cameraman to just before the River Tay, continuing along Scott Street before turning onto South Street, ironically named as the street actually runs west to east but so named as it was the southern most road in Perth at a point in history if I recall correctly. Continuing along South Street, passing a Greggs bakers you get an opportunity to see onto the High Street and where the majority of Perthshire shopping takes place thanks to St John's Shopping centre plus the various shops along the High Street, continuing past that, the parade turns onto St John's Street passing St John's Kirk, continuing along to the end of St John's Street and turning right onto the High Street before turning Left onto George Street, at the top of which lies the Museum the building with the Pillars in white and adjoining structure to the left of the pillars, continuing back to the left to finish again outside the Concert Hall along Bridge Lane, Horse Cross and Mill Street, these 3 street names very tightly packed close together, where the parade ends.
