Honestly Jim, I gotta disagree with you on this one. If you consider the fact of how ingenious the shark-lock design is, how “drop shut” the action is, the ease of use, the solidity of the fit/finish, superb blade construction, comfortable ergo’s, and the limited drops every year……..makes the Demko AD20 prestigious!! It’s in a class of its own and made in America. Yes, it’s a knife that can be abused and was made to be USED! However, with the custom titanium scales and the various styles offered, you could really have an AD20 look like a beaut. There’s a sheepsfoot (what they call sharksfoot) blade and tanto blade version which is a lot more rare. There’s a few Magnacut blade versions out there in the ether too. At the end of the day, the AD20 is such a sought after knife and I feel it’s for good reason. Regardless if it’s used or locked away in the safe. Can’t call it a safe queen, more like a safe king 😂.

I have the full titanium and when I took mine apart and examined the shark lock mechanism, I found the simplicity and elegance of its design and build, very reminiscent of the 1911 internals.

I finally got an AD20 Slim and it's an incredible knife. They aren't rare but they aren't easy to buy retail and the prices on the secondary are nuts.

Just got the MG AD20S. So comfortable in hand. The G-10 feel is perfect, though not loving the digicamo color 😢😢😢. Also having some lock stick, which seems odd for this knife. My 20.5 runs perfectly smooth every time. I want to love this knife and it is that good to love, but wish I had bought a different color and lock didn’t have this hiccup.

These are on another level. I got very lucky and scored one a few months back at a online retailer. So much more substantial than the cheaper Taiwan production one that is smaller but also very smooth.

This is 100% my dream knife will be getting the 3V or Magnacut version. The most I've ever spent on a knife was $300 and it took time for me to do it. I will be saving for a long time to be able to purchase this one but I definatly know their going to be around for many years to come and maybe get even better just a testament to how well this knife is done by them. By then I hope they will be able to ramp up production on them and get them more available. Thanks for the great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable

I too am a fan of the Demko. After seeing it on various sites (MC,Neves.. Etc) I became interested. I ended up purchasing an AD 20.5 as a stop gap, to hold me over as I search for the actual AD20. Your review only reinforces my decision on my future purchase. Lol.. 😁

Hey Jim, great video! The Ad 20s mg sells for $275 at Knife center. I picked one up a couple of months ago. Wasn't super excited about D2 and grivory for that much but it was the first one I'd seen available so I bought it and I am not disappointed. I totally agree it must be experienced to fully appreciate it. I plan on getting the G10 20cv version as soon as I find one. Have you seen the John Demko designed B'yond edc River wolf? It's also a beast. I enjoy your content and top notch camera and lighting work. Thnx.

Yup you got it right! (Wa)-Pum, it’s Native American name. I’m from Ellwood City which is a stones throw away from Wampum, I’ve walked there many of times. It’s a really small town. Takes ya about 10 mins to see the sights of the town. Not much there. But seeing Wampum PA on the side of that knife makes me wanna pound my chest an scream Hell Yeah!

Awesome video Jim. I feel kinda the same the ad 20 had absolutely no appeal to me until a buddy of mine let me check his out. When i got it in hand i really did not want to give it back. Actually i tried to buy it off him. Lol The good thing was i live about 10min from Smokey Mtn Knife works and they had me one in two days. Absolutely my favorite everyday carry now. I own the sheepsfoot blade in the toxic green and i did send mine off to i think BGM knives and had a deep hollow grind put on mine. Its a slicing machine now. BGM does a great regrind service. Im terrible with names so it may not be BGM but if anyone is interested just let me know ill find out for sure. Anyway great video

Hey Jim, just a suggestion, while I've never had the pleasure of handling a 20, I do own a 20s ($300)which I only obtained to supplement my desire for a 20 until I could find one. While I absolutely hate grivory, the thickness on the 20s actually makes it feel almost as solid as g10, and other than the d2 blade, that is literally the only difference from the 20, and they are much more easy to find. I absolutely love this knife! I don't know if I'll ever need to get a 20 now, especially once they get custom scales out there for the 20s which they are working on. Just food for thought, if you can get past the D2 blade lol. Thanx for all u do man! (After thought, if you own a 20.5, there's a lefty pocket clip that comes with the knife, fits the 20, and 20s).

I feel the same as you did, don't really find myself having that IT factor to buy one. Even though I've had many chances to buy one but not so many on the knives I want to buy, crazy how that works. Maybe one day I'll handle one and my mind would change, or maybe not. For me I carry a fixed blade for any hard use and a screaming slicer folder for mostly fun, because folding knives are just more fun.
@sgsheff
@sgsheff 2 жыл бұрын
you should try one out. the shark lock is some of the most functional engineering you can experience in hand. The ad20 is the knife that after using makes you think "every knife should function like this." it's really really good. it's not a flashy knife for showing off but when it comes to function it's very difficult to beat.

My feeling exactly the same thing and I'm a huge demko fan but I honestly never believed that there was anything that would supplant my ad 15 . Just wasn't going to happen I own 3 of them told everyone It was the knife I'd never sell . Was the one in my collection that if I could only have one that it was it . So I was very dismissive of the ad 20 and it wasn't till the 20.5 that I finally went ok I'll buy one to see the hype. Now the ad 20 is my knife I carry one everyday and have for almost a year now . I just don't think there is a better true user on the planet.

We have similar stories with this knife lol. When it came out, I was like that's pretty cool if I ever come across one I'd think about buying it but wasn't to worries about it but then a friend of mine bought the 20.5 I believe with the aus10 steel and plastic handles but he had aftermarket titanium handles and when I handled it for a couple minutes about a month ago at work I wanted one lol I could easily get the 20.5 but I want the 20 so I'm just waiting for some to drop to hopefully scoop one up!

@@JimSkeltonKnives The slims as well I think the only real difference besides being slimmer is the lock itself I think is made in Taiwan and I think its MIM not EDM in the US like on the AD20. I have 3 of the AD20S now, 2 of the D2 one clip point with black G10 and one shark foot blue FRN and I have one of the 204p ones with blue FRN too those have a drop point. I ordered so fast I wasn't paying attention to what scale material it was just so I got anything and the site was in Dutch so I couldn't understand shit anyway. It did translate to English but it kept going back to Dutch.

I have the 20.5 and felt I overpaid , added some OG scales and it became acceptable but it seems the blade is a bit short for the handle size imo , the sheepsfoot blade . Not my favorite by any means despite all the hype I was disappointed for what I received for the price

I wish people would understand that just bc a knife has thick blade stock does not mean it's not super sharp and can't slice and cut very good. Maybe not as good as like a Spyderco pm2 but some can get damn close and you have alot of extra strength bc of the thickness

@JesseLJohnson 2 жыл бұрын

@JesseLJohnson
@JesseLJohnson 2 жыл бұрын
You can buy AD20 and AD20S for well under $750 if that is what you are saying. $750 is more in the range of a custom or paying 2nd hand outrageous prices. I have 3 of the AD20S the slims and the most recent is 204p and I bought it in Europe so the dealer there was more expensive really because of that and I paid $506 shipped. Knife Joy had m390 same blade shape and they were considerably less but they are here in the US. I have 2 of the D2 AD20S and the FRN ones are $275 the G10 are $350. I slept on the last batch of AD20 REC and others had about a year ago think they were 20cv these are all MG not customs and I think the G10 were like $425 and the FRN like $350 pretty sure that is what the prices were
