I love Pinball FX, and like Jim said, I LOVE that the tables I bought ages ago in the first game on the XBox 360 are still with me now with FX 3 on the XBox One and I didn't have to buy any of them again. As for the gameplay, the physics aren't QUITE as realistic as Pinball Arcade (which ONLY replicates actual real life tables), but it's all right because Pinball FX tables do things no real table could ever attempt (as you can see in the video!) I buy as many of the tables as I can and there's no truly bad ones that I've encountered. Great game!

Also also, during multiball you might want to (subject to the rules, of course) deliberately drain down to a manageable number of balls so you can control them more easily, or "hold" one of the balls in your raised left flipper while you make shots with the other one.

A journeyman pinballsman. You get extra points from me for that. I too enjoy pinball (usually The Pinball Arcade because real games) and play physical pinball machines when I can. I'm by no means a wizard (that's the actual term for a master pinballsman) though. This Star Wars pinball looks like a cross between AC/DC Luci Premium and The Getaway.

I've lost countless hours to PinballFX 2 and now 3. The Star Wars/Marvel tables are great but my favorite has to be Epic Quest. So satisfying getting to Wizard Mode on that table. It's the one I usually end my play sessions on. Thanks Jim for showcasing this fantastic series of video pinball.

What a great Jimpressions! I like this kind of thing way more than traditional reviews. Besides that, it's just nice to see Jim be happy about games now and again. Jimqusition is a great series, but he should get to be less-than-furious once in awhile.

Pinball Fx is by far the best video pinball out there. I wanted to like Pinball Arcade more because its based off of real tables, but Pinball FX plays so much better and is more fun because of it. I've played quite a bit of real pinball, to the extent that I actually know what to look for and how to get good scores. Pinball FX is awesome because it does some things visually that can't be done in real life, like teleporting a ball in the Portal Table, while at the same time totally following the rules of real pinball tables. If you know how to play a real pinball table, you can jump into Pinball FX and rack up high scores! Just a real quick tutorial for anyone playing pinball. Basically if it flashes, hit it with the ball. Flashing ramp? Shoot the ball up it! Pay attention to what lanes light up after the ball rolls back, if you hit those flashing lanes in a certain amount of time, you usually get a combo of sorts. Hitting a ramp a certain amount of times may fill up lights below it. Fill them up to find out what it does. Pay attention to what lights up after you hit the initial thing that you hit that was lit up. Also pay attention to what the Scoreboard screen says when you hit things. It will hint to you how to get jackpots. Every game has different rules, but if you take what I just said, you can apply it to every pinball table out there in one way or another. One more tip about multiball. Multiball isn't there just to look cool. It usually raises the scoring and enables certain jackpot shots while you have multiple balls on the field. Once you go back to one ball, scoring goes back to normal, and the jackpot shots are shut off. Pay attention to what the scoreboard screen says while in multiball. It should tell you about the scoring going on, any may tell you what to hit to score a jackpot. Also a lot of times, there will be a flashing light on the field below a ramp or drop target that is flashing JACKPOT while in multiball. Hit it as many times as you can! A lot of pros catch 2 of the balls in one flipper and hold them there while trying to use the other flipper to make shots with a single ball. Keep multiball going as long as you can. You might have to light LOCK to lock a ball for multiball. You have to lock 3 balls to start multiball. Dude, pinball is deep.... I could keep going on tips, but that gets you started. And dont forget to look what the controls are to nudge/push/shake the machine. Move it just right to keep a ball from going down the drain. Its not cheating, even in real life. Thats why there is a tilt buzzer. You can nudge as long as you don't tilt. Ask any pinball owner. Ok, if you made it this far, you must actually want to learn how to play pinball. There is a lot to it.

Jim loves playing with his balls. As he states, he's quite experienced and even knows how to deal with more than one at a time, even if that's a little scary. Thank god for Jim, that ball bouncing god of gaming. What would we do if we didn't have videos of him playing with his shiny balls?

This game has some fantastic cel-shading.

Pinball Arcade is a similar model. Free download with one free table, and just buy the tables you want. Difference being FX is all custom made tables, where as Pinball Arcade is all recreations of real world tables. Both are great and worth looking into if you like Pinball. Also, Pinball Arcade started charging $5 per table instead of per 2-pack around season 3 or so.

The Zen pinball customer service and policies are better than Jim implies. I owned all tables on my Kindle tablet but none on my Android phone. I emailed them and they opened all tables up on my phone. Great guys

I used to go to the Arcade as a lad before video games took off big time , there were games like double dragon and ghosts and goblins around but.. all the cool older guys (16+) were playing pinball , so i used to spend my free time and empty pockets just standing at the tables and watching these older wizards play for hours on only a few coins and dreaming I will be that awesome when I get older :D . Made loads of little friends also and it felt like a second home . I think I will buy this and finally be cool like those guys were

So you would like Dovetail Games' business model as well then. Buy a base licence with a pack of content once. Get the yearly version updates for free and buy new content as you go in the form of dlc. People often mock the €5000 of dlc for train simulator, but are oblivious to the license and business models behind it. Not to mention the 85%+ discounts they do during steam sales. I think it's great and I wish more publishers worked like DTG.

I appreciate this game being on Switch and how often the tables go on sale. Makes for a good time when I just want to shut my brain off for a minute.

I hate the fact you can’t buy the old boards anymore for pinball fx2. I usually give gift a table to a friend who doesn’t have a gaming computer. Her computer had no problem playing fx2 but cant run fx3. I understand new tables can only be bought under the new engine, but why stop people buying old boards under the old game?

HIT THE LEVER, PUSH THE BUTTONS! By the way Jim, if you like pinball, you'll love the Pro Pinball games, particularly the first and second ones, respectively The Web and Timeshock. Timeshock just happens to be my favourite table of all time AND they are making a real table based on the game. Timeshock is impossible to win however, even with operator's menu cheats to give you slightly fairer time limits and more balls.

The Aliens table is a legitimately good table, and has a great APC mini-game. Predator table not so much...

Yeah, Zen Pinball seem like they do good stuff and have a friendly business model. They have the free base game on Wii U and 3DS as well, but I've never bought anything in them. Cool to see stuff carries between versions, although I don't think those systems are on FX3 (though I could be wrong.)

Another game to look at who does microtransactions right is skyforce anniversary... First on mobiles then moved to consoles, and in a game that has all the qualifiers to be microtransactioned the Devs haven't I found it a nice little surprise made me enjoy the game a lil more

That model reminds me of Zen Pinball 2 for the WiiU (in my case), the base game is free for download and you can try every table for free too. I've bought both South Park tables and they're pretty awesome and I believe I bought them with a discount.

absolutely love pinball fx loved fx 2 and 3 is fantastic. Carried over all my "machines", the physics feel fantastic and real. I play alot of pinball in real life and this is the closest to the real thing if not completely the same honestly. Either way yea this game is great.

This Star Wars table looks beginner friendly to me. I'm kinda tempted to give it a try from this video.

Love this game. I scooped up a shitload of tables for pinball fx2 in the steam summer sale, and about 90% of them transferred over to fx3 for free. Only a few (the two South Park tables being the ones I miss the most) didn't get ported over because of some kind of licensing bullshit. I also spent the $10 on the new Universal tables that came out for FX3, worth it.

This is more of a short featurette then a review but like that's the point right? It's enjoyable so far and I feel it's starting to take shape.
