Jinhao 9056 - Unboxing and First Impressions

The latest Fountain Pen First Impressions video is now available for your viewing pleasure.
In this video I take a brief look at the Jinhao 9056 Green Sandalwood fountain pen.
I then fill it with Colorverse Able ink and do a brief writing sample.

Love the pen. I like the wood body and fortunately the nib writes very well. Yes, it is a facsimile to the Conklin All American but at a far better price. This one will stay in my collection.

I have this pen in the darker walnut finish. I liked the nib just fine, but used the inexpensive pen as an opportunity to experiment. I ground the nib down to a 1.0 mm stub, and it writes superbly. I ink it up with Diamine Ancient Copper.

I love that ink. I like the idea of experimenting with it. I do like the wood finish, it's quite different from a lot of my other pens.

Excellent video as always. Bought mine in May from Amazon UK for £20.00 next day delivery. Lovely pen with a superb finish. I have the same finish as yours. The nib is excellent, so I guess you have a rogue nib. Difficult to match an ink so I went for contrast, with Diamine Bilberry, a lovely blue/purple. The pen is a copy of a Conklin All American, which retails for £100 in UK. Keep up the good work.

Is it just my impression, or are the jumps from the barrel to the threading and from that to the section much more pronounced in the Conklin than in the Jinhao? At least for Conklin's wood model (The plastic version seems almost exactly the same as the Jinhao)

@@WhenDoesTheVideoActuallyStart Sorry, I can't answer that, not having used the Conklin. Poor quality overpriced brand. Other reviewers of the 9056 have raised the copy issue.

Another reviewer also demonstrated that the Conklin version is not airtight at the cap; whereas the Jinhao is.

Thanks. I think the issue may be the ink - I am going to try it with Diamine Tobacco Sunburst next to see if that makes a difference. Failing that I'll strip it down for a good cleaning and realign the nib and feed, after that I have an emery board and micromesh on stand-by

I have two 9056s, one with a tiger sandalwood, the other with a juglans/walnut finish. Both nibs are „fine“, but are IMHO more on the fine-medium side. There is only a very small amount of feedback, no scratching at all. The inks are Troublemaker Kawasan Teal and Diamine Inkvent Roasted Chestnut. The only slight niggle I have is the bulky grip section, which makes writing for a longer time a bit uncomfortable, at least for me. Otherwise: nice pens!

I do need to try this with some other inks. I have a bottle of Diamine Tobacco Sunburst that I will try in the pen.

An idea for a sequel : one by one try to replace the cap, the body, the nib unit, etc. of the 9056 by those of the 146's.

If only I could afford one of those pens - maybe in the distant future. I may try that with the Jinhao 159 as they do look quite similar.

@@GarryEves Sorry. My mistake. I meant the Jinhao 159, not the Jinhao 146. I get lost with all those model numbers.

@@thorhilda I have the same issue with all the different numbers. I thought you meant the Montblanc 149, definitely a pen I need to save a long time to get.
