I'm very used to thinking out of the box, you Sir, are a genius. I am so glad that I chose your video over others. I'm 61 and still have a lot to learn. Nice build, a simple useful design. I would suggest adding a couple of knobs to the adjustment screws, though, with registration marks so you can see if they vibrate out of position, and some metal plates under the bottoms to prevent wear on the support board. And I would replace the front and (especially) back adjustable boards on the dust cover with just brush sweeps, set with the bristles a bit below the level of the roller. These wouldn't need to be adjusted at all.

Nice! An improvement you can add is joining the two “Z axis” with a belt for having exactly the same high on each side of your tool. Like some 3D printers Z axis improvement.

I enjoy your videos. My uncle who passed away recently, made all of his tools in his basement. I was crushed the day I saw his shop and thought how he built his own table saw, drill press, thickness sander and more. I miss him. He got me started in wood working.

Really really Cool. Of course users will modify as they like but One addition: easily swaped out sanding drums - would allow different grades of paper to be used quickly. Saving on double sided tape and paper alignment hassles. Even buffing material would be useful as an option. But as shown its a very useful project.

I like it, but i think height adjustment needs improvement. At least, after you set it up, can you attach knob on the threaded rods? So, you can be certain to turn both sides same amount. Alternatively, a little chain and sprocket at the bottom of those rods can link them, which makes adjustment more accurate. Just thinking out loud, your videos are awesome as always.

I was with you until you did that angle cut on the sandpaper roll and it fit exactly. At that point, I knew this was some kind of voodoo! Seriously, very cool. Well done!

Como ya lo dijeron en otro comentario, sería muy bueno ponerle perillas (knobs) a los tornillos para facilitar su movimiento. También sería conveniente mover un solo tornillo que garantice el movimiento perfectamente horizontal de la madera de ajuste. Pienso que mover los 2 tornillos es difícil controlar la perfecta horizontal. Yo no tengo idea cómo hacerlo, pero JSK "Silk Hands" puede con eso y más. Saludos desde México.

The only thing I'm not happy about is that you need two separate screws to set the height of the base. I suppose this can let human error make it less precise. I'd be more confident on having a single knob affecting both of the screws equally. Other than that, this is pretty damn cool.

Does the double sided tape (the relatively narrow strips you put on each side of drum) holds the sandpaper well enough? doesn't come off easily during the sanding process?

Lovely. Just what I was looking for but didn't have.

They key takeaways I got from this are: the input motor (600W corded drill) is only just sufficient to sand the surface of 10cm width of wood at a time. There was noticeable load. I would suspect that a flywheel might carry enough radial velocity to power through occasional tough spots but not an entire workpiece. A larger drill or sacrificing rotational speed for torque through gearing seems wise. The bed and drum are currently wider than the motor can adequately serve. The same applies to extraction. Adding a brush or perforated plastic strip curtain to the outfeed may help keep stray particles within the extraction zone but not solve the overall efficiency. I would suspect that waste at the edges of the bed would end up back on the workpiece as it is fed through rather than being extracted. The bed lift mechanism needs some method of being locked in place; vibration will move the threaded rods. Adding some sort of height indication pointer at "this" end of the bed would help with levelling; if the fulcrum of the bed is say, 200mm from the drum contact point and the bed is 600mm in length from the fulcrum, a 3:1 height scale at these pointers produce a more accurate and repeatable setup. Additionally, moving the adjustment threads away from the fulcrum point increase the number of turns required to achieve a specific height.
