The Bee Gees are one of those bands it's super easy to dis on (and I'm as guilty as anyone.). It's also super easy to forget how insanely talented they actually are.

The Bee Gees are well-known because of Saturday Night Fever. But before that, for YEARS, they had hit after hit, great songs with beautiful harmonies, a huge catalog. I especially like "NY Mining Disaster", "Lonely Days, Lonely Nights" and "Nights on Broadway".

People forget just how long the Bee Gees were on top and how many times they re-invented their sound to stay there. They deserve credit as one of the greatest of all time. I've found a great appreciation for their music over the past 40 years. Especially with all the poor music that has inundated the mainstream. Good Show Guys! I'd hit Nights on Broadway next. The rhythm for "Jive Talkin'" was inspired by the chunka-chunka-chunka sound of a car rolling over a bridge crossing Biscayne Bay near Miami. The Bee Gees went over it on their way to Criteria Studios, where they were recording their "Main Course" album.

Not even The Beatles accomplished this incredible feat: The Bee Gees at one point had the TOP 5 singles at a singular moment. That will NEVER be done again. A staggering feat. Think about it.

It's hard to describe how overwhelmingly the Bee Gees dominated the late 70s. They tied or broke all sorts of chart records set by The Beatles, from having the most consecutive #1 singles (six) to having the most #1 singles in a calendar year (seven). The Bee Gees’ 1971 song “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” was a HUGE hit for Al Green the following year. Please don’t sleep on Al Green any longer, guys. His best known song and probably the best intro to him is “Let’s Stay Together.” But my personal pick for your first Al Green song would be “Love and Happiness.” The intro alone is 🔥🔥🔥!!!

Some of their early songs you might try are" I've Gotta Get A Message To You", "Lonely Days Lonely Nights", "Holiday", "I Started a Joke", "New York Mining Disaster 1941", and Spicks and Specks". The last two a lot of people thought were the Beatles. They also had a career before this when they were kids in Australia. They seemed more like a novelty act then although it's funny to see Barry towering over his younger brothers in the videos. I was not a fan of disco when it was new, in fact, quite the contrary. However after time, I've come to appreciate it for its nostalgia which of course you guys can't do, but it takes me back to my adolescent years. I've gotten to like a lot of their mid to late 70s material because of that but I still prefer their late 60s/early 70s stuff.

The BeeGees were so talented and innovative. Some people don't like them because they're so connected to the disco-era, but their musical career spanned several decades, and they just happened to become hugely popular during disco. I think their "disco" era music is so much more interesting and enjoyable to listen to than some 80's hits (such as 1980's Elton John which I dislike immensely lol).

Everyone seems to do the disco era of the Bee Gees but they are so much more than that. I grew up with this great group. Love their early music especially 60's-70's. Some of their early hits were "Spicks & Specks", "New York Mining Disaster 1941", "To Love Somebody", "Holiday", "Massachusetts", "World", "And The Sun Will Shine", "Really & Sincerely", "Words", "The Singer Sang His Song", "I've Gotta Get A Message To You", "Lonely Days", "I Started A Joke", "Melody Fair", "First of May", "Give Your Best", "Lamplight" etc.

Love the Bee Gees, all eras. Nights on Broadway from the same album is my favorite of theirs. Fanny (be tender with my love) is a great ballad , also from that album.

Do "Nights on Broadway." One of their best and definitely rock and not pop (although their pop stuff is pretty darn good too).

You have to keep in mind, this is something the Gibbs could play LIVE, with maybe one or two supporting musicians. They were not just throwing this down in the studio, they could do the same level of quality on the road.

I recommend "Saturday Night Fever" as a movie reaction on patreon. Great soundtrack. John Travolta's dancing to "You Should Be Dancing" is very good. A lot of people hated on disco at the time, but if they could've known the crap that exists today, they wouldn't have been so harsh on it.

Btw, I'm sure you've heard by now, but Bee Gees were a pretty damn good pop rock band in the 60s and early 70s before they hit it huge with disco. Lots of good psychedelic rock and even a hint of prog. Check out World or Lemons Never Forget if you don't believe me!

Their earlier stuff was so different and I really liked it: To Love Somebody, Massachusetts, I Gotta Get a Message to You. From their Disco era: Love So Right, More than a Woman, Night Fever, Fanny and You Should Be Dancing.

The Bee Gees get a bad rap. I believe they are in the top ten of most albums and singles sold, they are all around one of the most successful bands of all time. The Saturday night fever soundtrack was enormous, and the songs are amazing, I don't care about the people who label them disco, those songs are amazing. And they have other huge hits you should do, "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" "Lonely Days, Lonely Nights" "Nights on Broadway", the list goes on and on. Great songwriters, great band. There's a great documentary on HBO about them, you should take a look.

This song was popular when I was in Middle School. I loved it! All of my friends and I were listening to primarily hard rock and heavy metal: Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Foghat, Zeppelin, etc. So when I bought the album (on vinyl) I had to bring it home in a paper bag and hide it apart from my other records.

I love the fact that the snare stays steady through the 7/8 section, so its on the 2,4,6,1,3,5,7,2......so it feels like it flips. Great little groove throughout. Touch of cowbell, a few claps. All in all a solid tune. Yep, I remember hearing this on the radio when it was released.

It’s about time!!! These guys are fantastic song writers and performers. There is a song on this album that Quincy jones said was his all time favorite ( Fanny Be Tender with my Love). These guys have been writing and performing professionally under this name since 1958 through the 2000’s. Barry is the only one left alive. Lives in Miami and is now a US citizen. To get a flavor try 1967 to love somebody. Then Fanny Be tender with my Love, Nights on Broadway, How deep is your love, for a little R&B funk try love you inside and out. Too much Heaven…that should get you going… there is lots from the 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s too. They have written over 1,000 songs in their career, some for other artists. Song writers hall of fame, Rick & roll hall of fame, Grammys, star on Hollywood walk of fame, tons of international awards too, etc. Heck, if your going to actually react to these guys I guess I will have to re-subscribe!😎

You really can't go wrong with them. I was there and disco was FUN MAN! I loved Zeppelin, Floyd etc etc but I also loved to dance my arse off all night and disco filled that need perfectly.

I'm old enough to remember the 70s. There was no internet, cable tv, video games were rare. When people wanted to be entertained on a weekend they went out to discos and danced all night long. This song, and many songs like it were specifically crafted for the dance floor. Simple, repititious, strong beats, fun unexpected little sections within the song. If you are just sitting listening to it, it could get boring but if you were on the dance floor, you wanted it to go on forever. ***** Edit: this is one of the reasons why people were skinnier in the 70s. 😄

"Nights on Broadway", and "Fanny (Be Tender With My Love)" are good candidates for 70s Bee Gees. Their older stuff like "Love Somebody" and "Words" are excellent (as is most of their older catalog). Their keyboard player Blue Weaver was amazing and mastered the Arp, Moog synthesizers of the day. His leverage of the Fender Rhodes electric piano is also awesome! The bass on "Jive Talkin" is a synth not a bass (probably a miniMoog.

My first concert was the BeeGees in 1979. I went with my parents and a family friend. White jeans, velvet v-neck, tan satin jacket with blue stripes, feathered hair and my swirly comb in my back pocket. They did a 20-minute version of Jive Talkin' for their encore and I lost my 11-year old mind. Great memory.

This was when disco was hitting strong. Many rockers wouldn't have it but there's a lot of great music by the Bee Gees. There are so many songs by the band in the movie Saturday Night Fever. "You Should be Dancin" will make you dance lol... omg memories.

There’s a mashup on KZfaq of the Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive” and Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall” called “Stayin’ Alive in the Wall.” The two songs share similar riffs and tempo in parts, and once you hear it, you’ll never be able to unhear it.

Three unique voices that can't be duplicated, that just work incredible well together. And more than a few handfull of hit songs, in like, really top of the pack world hits. They followed and in part lead (disco?!) different musical areas over their many decades carreer too. Don't even need to be a fan to admit they were on of the best bands in all of pupular music!

I love most of the BeeGees, but special place in my heart for the early BeeGees. The song I Started a Joke is a good example of that era.

Sooooo talented! And their younger brother, Andy Gibb, had some number ones before he tragically passed away....

Jive Talkin' put the Bee Gees on the map for me, back in the day. The album itself was a real departure from their earlier sound and laid the groundwork for what eventually became Saturday Night Fever. The other track from this album, Fanny Be Tender (With My Love), never charted that well in the US, but also laid the groundwork for their: "Two verses, 160 choruses, building on each one," style a la, How Deep is your Love. "Fanny" is a really good track to check out. However, the huge hit from this album is Nights on Broadway.

This song and "Fanny Be Tender" by the Bee Gees are my favorites. No other group will EVER Sound like the Bee Gees. They are among the New gods of Music!!! Excellent group!!!!

Maurice was a great bass player whose idol was McCartney. He could play several instruments well. Robin's voice was absolutely unique although not featured on this song except for harmony, and was the best balladeer. I preferred Barry's natural voice, which could be very powerful, to the falsetto. The group got unfairly labelled and thrown in with a lot of the disco crap which WAS crap. They were more R&B at this stage and didn't even know what disco was. Their work in the 60's, early 70's, 80's and 90's into the early 2000's had dozens of gems but they were blackballed in the US because they were too successful. How can they not be considered great when they were among the top 5 artists of all time? They wrote hits for big stars too like Streisand, Diana Ross, Kenny Rogers, Celine Dion and others. They could tailor their style of songwriting to fit the artist perfectly and gave those other artists #1 hits. My preference for them in their 60's stuff and post disco works. To dismiss them as disco is sad. As Robin Gibb said, you can dance to a lot of music but that doesn't make it disco. Anyone who ignores an artist based on a false label or preconceived idea can miss out on a lot of gems.

"Nights on Broadway" is a late 70s but pre-disco Bee Gees hit which is (sort of) a banger. "How Deep is Your Love" and "Too Much Heaven" are the best ballads of the Disco era. Early Bee Gees (60s) try "NY Mining Disaster", "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart", and "To Love Somebody".

The Bee Gees had been around since the early 60's and their career was at dead end until they turned to disco.

If there was a Bee Gees compilation that was sequenced - 1) Jive Talkin' 2) Nights On Broadway 3) Emotion 4) How Deep Is Your Love 5) You Should Be Dancing 6) More Than A Woman 7) Warm Love 8) Night Fever 9) Stayin' Alive - it would be my one ultimate, essential Bee Gees album. A pity there isn't such an album commercially available, but I've compiled it myself anyway so it doesn't really matter.

Nights on Broadway is a seriously funky groove, more funk than disco.

This is one of my favorite road trip/highway songs - that beat just begs to hit the open road.

Before the Bee Gees went disco, they were a mainstream rock group, kind of like the Beatles. For that period of the Bee Gees, I'd start with either "To Love Somebody" or "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart".

Bee Gees style of Disco is much better than other Disco artists/songs. There just seems to be more character in the Bee Gees tunes. Not the almost mindless rhythm of other Disco songs. Probably because the Bee Gees were more rock in the 60's and early 70's. They were working from a better foundation.
