@@jakubswatowski1007 If you get double teamed your not gonna put up stats right? Look at the sacks that TJ's getting. They're either leaving him with a no name tackle or 2 of the 19 sacks he got were him getting chipped. Rarely did he have to get through more than one person to get a sack.

I remember the year Westbrook got the triple double record. And the mvp that year. I saw so many people online saying that harden should’ve won it. I don’t know exact numbers but I think harden was averaging something like 35 points plus a game for pretty much the entire season. He was having a crazy year and on the rockets who at the time were much better then okc. But Russ got the record and James never even went to the show. I remember that’s when I learned they let players know ahead of time at these things. And also don’t get me wrong averaging a triple double is great too but I think consistently putting up monster numbers is even better.

he was also doubled all year long and had a higher win rate, 37 pressures, but if you want it to be a box score award thats fine. i do think he should've won tho having said that but people acting like the stats = everything and Myles wasnt even close to the award is just weird to me. TJ also had a few unblocked sacks so i think thats what gave myles the edge but then again did they even look at TJs coverage ability? idk.

Guys like TJ not winning DPOY when he's clearly the best defender straight up hurts the shield. When you misaward players it hurts the integrity of the game because it messes up the legacy's of players. When the paint dries and they start comparing players, and HOF credentials and everything else it's a massive blunder and it makes it look like the league doesn't know what it's doing. It's like when Kobe Bryant post Shaq had a terrible roster, averages something like 36.6 wins the scoring title and literally carries his Lakers to the playoffs and Steve Nash gets MVP with pedestrian numbers because his team won the most games. There's not a player in the league at that time that you could have swapped Kobe with who'd have gotten that team into the playoffs. So when they get it wrong badly, it's a blackmark on the league and the guys handing out accolades.

I wanted Myles Garrett to win the DPOY at some point in his career. Having said that, his game always seems to curtail the second half of the season. Did he face a crazy amount of double teams? Yes, but he should have produced more. TJ deserved it simply due to the fact that he's the best pass rusher in the NFL. Period.

Winning DPOY on pass rush win rate alone is kinda silly. It’s such a subjective idea. You could win your pass rush in someone’s view and still not affect the play. Yet, I’ve seen TJ lose a pass rush and still get an interception at the line of scrimmage. Just ask Joe Burrow.

Also pass rush win rate is itself a flawed statistic. You can win your rush only to have the linemen let you run 5 yards around him, letting the qb step up in the pocket. A left tackle pushing their opponent and making them run wide still counts as a "pass rush win" for the defender if he technically gets by them. When in reality, the o line is meant to stop sacks by any means necessary. If letting the pass rusher run wide past them buys their qb time to throw, they will take that "loss" 10 times out of 10.

The craziest part is most of y’all don’t realize that Watt and Garret play different positions. Garret is a DE and Watt is OLB, both “edge rushers” just in 4-3 or 3-4. Double team rate is only counted towards two linemen blocking one defender. DEs routinely get doubled by o line but have a shorter distance to the QB and have 3 other DL rushing usually. Whereas OLBs gets chipped by TEs and RBs and have to drop into coverage (both of which happened to TJ a lot this season). Not saying this makes either a better player, y’all just need to know the facts before you comment about double team rate.

Funny how the one guy that had the best stats up and down the page and was most consistent all year, had the worst odds of winning the award, and myles was the odds on favorite and "wins" is a bit telling. The pass rush win rate is a totally made up stat. It's the percentage of times a pass rusher wins a matchup in 2.5 seconds or less. So if the pass rusher beats a blocker in 2.6 seconds and gets a sack it would be considered a win for the blocker in that situation. Need I say more ???

There's no question that TJ should've won the award over Garrett. Just look at the stats across the board. However, having said that as a Steelers fan, I thought Daron Bland's 9 picks and 5 pick-6s was easily the best defensive performance of the 2023 NFL season. But there's no way TJ should've lost to Garrett. What a joke! The whole NFL is becoming a joke.

Fun fact the dpoy is not a pass rusher trophy. It's who made the most impact as There have been exactly 6 DT's that won DPOY 5 safety's that have won DPOY 6 corner backs that have won DPOY 13 linebackers that won DPOY and 10 DE's that have won DPOY I didn't count multiple wins as it was the same player still the DPOY isn't determined by the how many times a player can get to the QB as it's rare for a corner or safety to get to the QB. People forget that greats like Troy polamalu was a Safety and deon sanders was a corner back who I don't remember seeing deon getting sacks but he still won DPOY

If you could add either player to your team, all else being even, I don't think any GM takes Watt over Garrett(outside of PA anyway). That is an opinion and can I have not information to back it up, but I think it's correct.

There isn't a stat for holding either, which TJ also would have won. He's so good, they don't even call holds even if he is thrown to the turf! Still, every NFL stat, he was the best by far! So if you were held and even slung to the ground multiple times during every game, where PFF's stats for that!????? Complete bias crap is what they are! But unless you actually watch both players, you would be that naive.

The focus next year in the media will be DPOY but with a couple from the secondary. Need to take focus and debate away from Edge guys. Or TJ puts up 25 sacks breaks the record and really gives Badell no choice.

Because if you beat your matchup , you’ve done your job already if the qb throws the ball in 3 seconds and your beating your matchup every time just not getting sacks why should the defensive player be penalized? He’s literally winning his 1v1 or even 2v1s more than any other rusher in the entire league … plenty of factors to take into account when a sack occurs yes the player themselves have to win but also the coverage has to be there also or else the balls coming out to soon, or if the qb is mobile and just escapes out and throws it away that’s a great play but it doesn’t count in the stat sheet … it’s little things that people who don’t watch football heavy won’t notice .. they’ll just look at sacks at the end of the year and say let’s give it to that guy

@@gengar6470 So as defensive coach selecting among available players to improve your team would you choose the win-rate stat and select the player who wins their matchups but disrupts the quaterback less often to improve your defensive unit? I think the person disrupting the quaterback, using official statistics that impact the quarterback's ability to execute a play, is the more valuable player. Value is subjective. (I should add that both players are in the same division and played the same opponents)

@@varsid but u also have to realize they play in 2 different schemes n used in 2 totally different ways … Myles is a traditional 4-3 edge who gets moved around to usually have to face the best OT on that opponents team… opposed to TJ. In a 3-4 defense that’s been sharpened by Mike t for years now . N also go look at the quality of help TJ has helping on the opposite edges compared to Myles who has clowney n smith who yes are big names but have yet to be consistent as a brown to even get small amount of pass rush to help the defense to it’s pretty much Myles or BUST.. I don’t think we can say Steelers are tj or bust especially if you’ve seen Alex highsmith at all this year …

Just wondering bc I think you were supposed to win the big game a couple years in a row now bc of how good the defense was. Myles is good but he doesn't make a whole defense and for that matter, if it matters, he can't show up!

I’m pretty sure they reveal winners before awards. Don’t think MCDC was there Demeco Ryan might have been. Both more deserving than Stefanski the choker. I’m a die hard Lions fan but Demeco Ryan should have won that award easily.
