On my way home from South Carolina I visited Congaree National Park and I figured it was time to hit Mammoth Cave National Park as well. I didn't know much about the park the weeks before arriving but I reserved a camp site at the park and reserved some tours. Let's check out one of the wonders of the world.

I love Mammoth Cave! I've gone on all the tours and many of the surface hikes, and stayed in the cute cabins, which were made by the CCC in the 1930s. It's a wonderful park.

We visited a couple years ago and were really impressed with the park. Such an interesting history. We took the Grand Avenue Tour which is the 4 mile, 4 hour tour. We loved it! We also spent an afternoon walking the trails around the park. Funny enough, a highlight of the trip for our 15 and 18 year olds (at the time) was riding the Green Ferry across river. We did it twice! lol

I visited decades ago and remember enoying the experience. The tours you took are not for the claustrophobic or the weak kneeded. Thanks for sharing.

Really great overview of the caves, Jay. I liked the music you used too. These caves looked way bigger than Carlsbad Caverns. Happy Trails! 🌄

I don't think you can compare Carlsbad to Mammoth. It's like apples and oranges. Both are fruit, but that's about it. Mammoth is the longest in the world (so far), with large long passageways and interesting history, but it is mostly a river system. Some flow stone areas exist and are beautiful, but can't compare to those in Carlsbad. The Big Room, which is a much larger chamber than any room in Mammoth, and has many more spectacular flow stone formations. I absolutely love both caves, having first visited Mammoth in 1963, and Carlsbad in 2002. They really can't be compared. Each has its own flavor, and each leaves you with a strong sense of awe!🙂

Really cool! Love Kentucky. You should go to Lex and see the castle and take the horse farm tour bus. So interesting. Beautiful places ❤

Are you going to travel to a hot spot to experience the 13 and 17 cycle reunion of the Cicadas as they rises from the depths to cover everything and make a noise like a jet taking off . That would seem to be once in a lifetime experience that your grandkids …. Well okay maybe grandkids don’t care about grandparents they way they use to, but good bragging rights anyways . Seems like fun adventure, except for trying to get them out of your radiator. Have fun be safe.
