Sometimes it can be challenging to know whether your beat up pair of boots needs a complete rebuild, or just new soles. Here are 3 easy tips on how to check if your boots need a rebuild or a resole.
The beauty of our handmade boots is that as the wear with age, they get more and more comfortable, withstanding the toughest wear and tear. And if they are worn hard enough, they can be completely rebuilt due to their unique leather construction. This process gives your favorite pair of boots a new lease on life while also preserving the best of the broken-in boot quarters (uppers).

When I'm nearing time for a resole I'll order another pair of Superduty safety toe and send in the current pair in for resole. I can't go without boots for a month or so waiting for a resole I'm in Western Canada. Its best to have two pairs of the same boot anyhow so you can rotate them or if you get one pair really wet you got a dry pair to wear. As for break in your Superduty boots are a walk in the park compared to trying to break in a pair of 151x Vibergs. The Superduty boots is one of the most comfortable pairs of loggers I've worn.

If you are only keeping the reletiverly small upper and eyelets parts, surely its better or cheaper to buy new, the bit kept must save nothing on the price?

Is tuff toe bad for the leather? I ordered custom super duty hardtoe boots. And I am on my knees a lot and don’t want to rub a hole in the vamp.

Did you end up adding the tuff toe? I’m debating if I should add it to my boots

9:50 why would the lip stitches area get worn down, shrunken or damaged? are they kicking things? is it due to drying out or what?
@mad0uche

Well it protrudes pretty far out, if you do kick something, or you do bump into something, that is almost always the thing to hit first, where as a red wing you will probably kick the item with the toe of the boot and cut the leather.

Can you go from lineman shank to just a regular shank? In a resole

I don’t think so, unless the midsole where the shank is really bad.

Proper leather insole ever need a coat of oil? Seems like it would help it resist drying out from sweat over time.

Linings and insoles can always use a decent cleaning but it's rare for them to dry out. I don't think oil would be a good idea: it could soak into the veg tan leather of the sole and break up the adhesive, would be my guess.

Bloucher area? Is there a specific name for the part of the vamp where the leather flexes and often cracks in boots and shoes? If not, there should be a name for it. Everybody knows what I’m talking about.

God some of these people take such terrible care of their uppers. Literally, in most cases it just takes a clean and wax or oil once a month, and that's if you're beating the crap out of them.

Take care of your equipment the equipment will take care of you. Have several pairs of boots. Alternate them so they can dry out properly and clean off the dirt. Polish and oil them. Don’t understand, after spending $5/600 treat the boots like crap?

When you re-soul, and and stitch another soul to the welt, you make a fresh set of holes in the welt? Making the welt weaker?…… multiply the times you re-soul the boot, it’s seems to me the welt would be so full of new holes that the boots wouldn’t be any good? Excuse my ignorance……

Hi Jeff, great questions! When we resole boots we cut the threads away from the outsole but we don't take the threads out of the holes that in the uppers of the boot. Since the threads are coated in wax before the stitching process they are able to seal up the holes that they mad made in the uppers. We stitch over the top of these older threads which will keep the uppers strong even after we have resoled the boot.
