Hello Sifu Jason, i'm from Turkey, Denizli. I'm watching your videos for several months or maybe a year. I did a fight one time when i was drunk and at least 5 people attacked. Fortunetaly, my guard was up all the time and i protected my face. I wish i could watch this video before i was drunk and out hahah. I started Wing Chun 3 years ago. My first school was Wing chun school but more like Mix. Martial Arts(in city Izmir) and my teacher is prepared us for street. Hopefully, until now nothing bad happened to me. Now, i changed city and i'm going different school but still Wing Chun school. This place trains more tecnique oriented. I started from very beginning of wing chun again because there are several schools and have different systems. For me it's easier to adapt new school and learn because i already learned some of it. I hope everything is fine there with Corona virus, Turkish people are at home these days. It's nice to watch your videos. You're fun guy and making difference with Wing Chun application videos. Take care guys. Thank you!

Good advice. Could see a pt2 and pt3 on this subject as there are many more aspects to cover. A few ideas to expand on and to keep in mind; such as de-escalating a bad situation. Keeping proper distance as not to be sucker punched. Being mobile, to move while still able to strike and defend (as many are stop and hit oriented) Also covering/shielding the sides of the head and chin with elbows whilst being able to strike with them is a good thing to know and practice.

Whoa, that was a long video, compared to the last few ones, but it was excellent. Really good stuff you put out there. In Krav Maga, I apply the personal principle of dealing with the situations in five seconds tops, I think if you need more than five seconds to deal with a threat (barring situations involving firearms) you need to revise the technique and your training. But that's a personal take, I still have to test it with students. I think it fits well with your advice on being aware of your surroundings during a fighting situation. The sporting thing I think is a two-way path, a pure self-defense guy might not do too well in a competitive bout and the sport fighter might get ran over on a street altercation, even though some sports guys with a bit of self-defense component to their material like to scoff at this statement. Looking forward to your next videos.

@@oldnatty61 OK, I'll offer my real world experience, its a Friday night I'm walking along minding my own business when I witness a individual who is stone drunk stumbling alone from across the street trying to catch up to 2 other individuals to his immediate front, they turn, 1 waits for the individual to get a little closer, next thing that happens is a right hook to the drunk who goes down on the sidewalk and hits the back of his head, as he comes back up the attacker gives the drunk a front snap kick to his head, the drunks head bounces off the sidewalk and he does not recover or get back up. So what's the point of my story? Don't drink and get drunk, then try to make amends with hotheads who are not drunk, keep calm, keep cool, keep your eyes and your feet moving and keep your balance, as you keep your chin down, hands up, in other words Sifu Jason advise is sound and tactical as evil exists and those on rage do not and will not fight fair. And thus ends this edification lesson.

Maybe you can answer this question: Here,s the problem, When practicing,concentrating, I can,t execute a proper breakfall to save my life, but if I fall accidently__ as in slipping on a wet surface, I do a beautiful breakfall without realizing it until I,m on the ground. Why is this?

How true and words of wisdom. I was bullied as a kid on many occasions ,sometimes by three kids at once punching into me .It wasn't until I tried to defend myself as a teenager on a one to one and my head was used as a punching bag , by this kid who was trained how to box in the ring ,that I decided to learn how to defend myself. I too took up boxing .Then came Bruce Lee Kung Fu movies and I decided to take up Martial Arts (Gung Fu) in Perth Western Australia. It combined some Wing Chun ,which is an amazing form of Martial Arts. The best thing I every did .I was able to help my best friend by taking on three opponents on my own and managed to cause them to run .On another occasion I was able to stop a thief from stealing a friends car by putting him in a hold that caused him to pee his pants in front of me and my friend. On another occasion ,I was at a party and a fight broke out and I was trying to avoid getting involved but someone managed to kick me in the leg .The pain was so painfall that it trigged a response in my brain to strike back and all my hours of training came out and sadly to say I did use a bit of unreasonable force. Whing Chung I believe should be treated with alot of respect.A very deadly Martial Arts form .In the wrong hands can see someone go to jail for a very long time.

Just a word from a guy who grew up in the place were a lot of muggers come from. You did not mention the attacker probably has a knife this gets more wrestlers messed up because a mugger is not going to tell you he has a blade he is just going to use it ! For self defence always think they have the same skill as you there is more than one and they have weapons .

Is Jeet Kune Do suitable for middle aged to older people or should they try to become proficient in a more conventional technique system?
@JKDandWingChun
@JKDandWingChun 4 жыл бұрын
Anthony Quintiliani I think it’s outstanding for self defense for people in middle age. Obviously, I’m biased but my reasoning is thus: First, being highly refined for modern self-defense only, it doesn’t put the wear and tear on you that many other sport based methods will. For example, MMA will certainly help for self-defense but the training is often as dangerous to the student as the fighting (maybe more so). Second, since the strikes are straight and economical, you don’t have to be perpetually 25 to do them. The straight punch and groin kick, supported by rapid footwork, are something we can all achieve. Anyway, thanks for watching and for the question.

@@JKDandWingChun Thanks for clarifying. Just after I asked about JKD I was reading something saying the JKD Lee used in films and tv shows was different than the JKD Lee would have used in actual self defense situations. Theatrical JKD was used to amaze and inspire people with physically spectacular and aestheticly beautiful manuevering and physically challenging aerial kicking techniques. Actual self defense JKD techniques from what I've read in Lee's Tao of Jeet Kune Do remind me a little of old school 1800's boxing a little bit. By the way I'm quite sure these guys never met directly but if you have time watch a boxing match and/or film study of the late professional boxer, Salvador Sanchez. It's uncannily like watching the essence of Lee's Jeet Kune Do in practical application!!! Sanchez's lead jab is executed with the vertical or 45 degree fist position and even his rear hand punch is thrown in a more vertical fist postion with absoulutely no flailing out of the elbow joint as he is delivering the punch!!! Even his hook punching is less boxing conventional and more closer in technical method to Lee's shooting arrow arm extension in conjunction with body rotational torque hook punching technique!!! It's like watching the manifestation of Lee's Jeet Kune Do in practical application.

A lot of these sugestions are from boxing training. When a person does a wind up to do a big punch, or a big looping punch, this is how a boxer sees it. The boxer will think it I just stick my arm out in a punch, I can punch way faster then a person show cocks their arm back, and does a winding up looping big punch. So, as a person starts to cock their arm back. Not finish cocking back, but starts to cock back, a,boxer has already punched you. Beat you to the punch. The thin is, many people dont even realize they are cocking their arm for a punch. Yet they do it, and are litterally telling a boxer their intent of what they are going to do, and how they are going to do it. Which is why many times a boxer can know what you are doing to do, your sub conscious telling him, before you the puncher even consciously know yourself. Your subconscious it tell in you to your opponent, before it even tells you consciously what to do. Also. Sine this is one of the big things borxers are taught from day one, they also learn how to punch properly with using the whole body to punch. Vs, a wind up punch. This also means, the boxer punch strait out to you,will be several more times more powerful than you sloppy wind up punch. I seen people at one of those punching machines, that shores how hard a person punches. I seen most people do a running 5 yard back giant wind up who cant even make the dial on the machine go one complete rotation around. Then I seen someone with boxing and martial arts training standup against the machine. Where the ball is almost up against their body. The punchers slowly moves his hand up with his none dominate hand,,which is facing the machine and almost touching it. Just enough room to slid his hand up between his body and the punching bag. Hand on the bag. No inch punch. Punch the machine punching bag, and make it spin all,the way not just once, not just twice, not just 3 times, but just shy of 4 full revolutions around on the dial where most people can maybe do 3/4 of the dial. So, we are talking about a NO INCH PUNCH 4 times more powerful then everyone else doing a running wind up, looping punch. So, when this man is telling you to not wind up and punch strait, you can see with just that one gold nugget of knowledge, can make such a giant difference and advantage it can give you over most people. I would suggest to not just know that is what you are supose to do, but to also practice it. Again to wind up to punch is a subconscious thing mist of us do. You need to practice punching strait a mirror, closely watching yourself, and friends watching to see if you do even the slightest of wind ups. For example part of the wind up that even trsonesxpunxhers do unknowingly is to drop their hand just a tiny bit before punching. That tiny drop just told your opposit to strike you before you even start your punch. Its telling your opponent everything you are planning to do for your opponet to take that information and litterally do any number of things against you before you even start yourpunch.

in my city the person that starts the fight is 50% of the times member of a highly criminal and violent family-clan or there is at least 3-10 others escorting him. even if you win the fight you will be hunted down for revenge afterwards. avoiding nightlife, gyms, public transport, leisure centers, swimming pools and concerts is the savest option than. best is just to go to work and straight home after. you never find them at a work-place! or you get a stab-vest and buy a gun, surround yourself with killers and bonebreakers and move as a skilled unit. just as they try to do. one big problem i find is that martial arts gyms accepting these individuals as paying members and making them even more dangerous while honest people are at work. on the weekend than when hunting for party and romance you find them everywhere ruining peoples night out.

Robberies aside, I strongly suspect that a very high percentage of street assaults are the result of bruised male egos courtesy of a woman. I watched two 'friends' go at one another in a bar district in southern Thailand - they both decided they were 'in love' with a stripper and that was the end of the 'friendship'. I'm ashamed to admit that they were Australians - ashamed but not surprised. I've seen granite tabletops in those bars that seem to have been designed by someone intent on doing as much damage to a falling body as possible - you mention stools and they are another potentially deadly weapon. Years of kicking around Asia and I have only been seriously threatened once (stumbled onto a drug deal in a Bangkok alleyway) - there is a lot to be said for keeping one's eyes opened and mouth shut. Thanks for the vid.

Are there any wing chun competitions? I heard something interesting from a wing chun guy who was into the history of martial arts. He said that in China Kung fu went through big changes over centuries based on the current political situation. During times of peace the masters had time to develop their art in a more complete way and would get into longer term training to get internal power. It's what they call Qi or chi and other names. He says that ip man had that evolved energy and why he could beat up much bigger and stronger opponents. Then wars would happen that required very immediate training for fighters so the deep energy thing was out the window. Today in our society people are in a rush to be killers as soon as possible so the deep training is rare. I think one of the few who did deep energy training was Rickson Gracie. He was into meditation, yoga, sitting in icy mountain streams etc. No one ever beat him. These days it's rare to see that kind of training. There are a few wing chun schools that teach internal energy. What do you know about it?
