Worth repeating,, forgive my rant.........this individual's instruction n my opinion one of the best or the best instruction on KZfaq. At 64 and playing for over three decades have only achieved par twice out of literally, thousands of rounds. Have paid tens of thousands of dollars on instruction. Often feeling good one day then frustrated and feeling like my body is in a knot, only to be told, stick with it, knowing in my gut not a good position. This man has literally brought me a repeatable, grounded, easy, natural swing to my game. Incredible to me his instruction......grateful and a blessing, thank you sir for the true joy I finally discovered in the game.

I just wanted to comment and say that I am 52 years old and started golfing for probably the 3rd time in my lifetime about a year ago. I struggled with the driver and always have. I did not understand the inside out swing and shallowing the club and no description ever from anyone addressed my misunderstanding. After watching this description, I was shocked. If I had someone explain this to me 35 years ago I would have loved golf. Instead I was mostly frustrated, especially with the driver, because I could overcome my poor swing with my irons, but never the driver. I went out to the driving range the evening after watching this, used this shallow swing and instantly hit everything straight more consistently. The best part of this was his description of the club head path. Thank you so much!

i went out today to practice these movements and noticed the difference right away. The right side bend is still a challenge because I have a bit of trouble getting my weight to shift forward- need to use the wall to perfect this feeling. Your explanations are always super clear and practical. Love the "awareness" approach.
@3spressoShot

what helps me is focusing on weight shift and side bend at the same time. I also try to hold my hands up to shoulder height as long as possible. this does a couple things in my experience. it gives your body more time to transfer weight/ rotate. but it also creates much more lag/leverage and a more powerful swing. now I'm not a long hitter or anything but i went from swinging my seven iron around 80 mph to 88-91 mph. and my driver used to be right around 95 mph... I'm currently swinging my 3 wood about 101 and my driver is going around 105ish give or take. sometimes i get to around 108. the sidebend is still not 100 percent natural for me, i think as my body learns the movement and my mind doest have to focus on it so much I can get to 110mph swing speed. one last thing: Imo not actively trying to swing faster, actually my swing feels more relaxed but creating the lag just really sends the ball. MY over the top move "felt" faster. it was definitely more effort and less efficient. because I'm swinging smoother Ive also improved my consistency. I struggle with my driver because i have a hard time hitting up on the ball but even then, my average drive went from 230 to 265.

this sideband thing is the key, and i have been trying to tell all my friends about it. I have been playing for only three years, but "discovered" the side bend on my own. I instantly gained about 10 mph on driver.. before i was trying to rotate my hips, and it would just create a more exaggerated over the top move. now my focus is more weight shift vs rotation.. so weight shift in combination with side bend and holding arms at shoulder height as long as possible. its crayzy because when i record my self my hips looked more active then i feel they are. feel is not real.

Great info. I wanted to add that, keeping my wrists somewhat relaxed on the downswing....has added a lot of yards to my iron hits, as the looser wrists definitely help whip the club through impact....and the hits feel really solid. As a result, I definitely have to re-think the yardage for all my irons and wedges....lol.

This is an excellent lesson on shallowing the club. I instantly saw two of my swing faults - back swing too much outside and limited side bend during the downswing. The flexed wrist at impact will be tougher to incorporate but it is doable (just fighting 40+ years of bad muscle memory.) Thanks, Jonathan!

There is a forth way! As a right handed player at 74 I finally discovered for myself that the absolutely best way to shallow the club is simply to quickly turn the knuckle of both hands clockwise immediately between the transitional downswing move known as P4/P5. Believe me it works regardless of most any golfer’s backswing. Steve Elkington coined this move ‘The Twirl’ but he never told anyone watching him on You Tube how to do it. So I thought I would tell people how simple and easy it really is. Cheers

I've practiced for yrs and struggled and practiced etc like most golfer. I got the club coming down on the inside and got turning but would always go back to slicing etc. One thing that totally transformed my downswing one day was as I took the club back and got to the top of my backwing I bowed my wrist back then started my downswing, this one little thing did so much more than just bowing my wrist, it seemed to keep the club tight and shallow and connected and changed my downswing and the entire way my body twisted throughout the downswing, it changed my shoulder path. Once I did this I just had to remember to turn through the shot. My only swing thoughts now I invented to remember are a simple "tuck and turn" I tuck my wrist back at the top of the Backswing then turn. I really like this guy hence I'm here but I wouldn't fork in your glove at first, just take the club back and at the top bow your wrist, i don't take it back bowed I add the bow at the top and you can't help but feel it its like suck a distinct "feel" you can't miss it. It literally feels to me like tucking the club behind me before I swing. Try it

Great video. I personally view the purpose of shallowing to send the kinetic vector toward the outside of the circle which the club head makes. At the initiation of the swing, many amateur golfers try to direct the head of club towards either the ball or the target. But, In order to make a circular motion (in order to create a good rotational force) the initial direction of the club is actually the opposite from the target. Most pros do this correctly without realizing what shallowing really does kinetically. Meaning they know shallowing works and it is needed, but many has a wrong idea or a partial idea why it works.
