This is a cheap alternative for fixing a rusted exhaust flange. Especially if your vehicle might be less in value than the parts needed to fix it properly!

Thanks. You asked, "How long is this thing gonna last?" My 1997 Grand Marquis has 466,000 miles on it, and I am just now fixing the same issue on the passenger side! That exhaust lasted a long time!

I'm no where near a mechanic but I'm tired of spending money on someone else to fix my stuff so I go to youtube and you sir saved me a huge headache today thank you

Man... this video had saved me hundred bucks as I DIYed it too. My 2014 outback had same old rotted pipe to muffler flanges. Same thing i did grind and cut the rusted bolt leaving me without anything to anchor the new bolt. I used the split flanges. My trouble is the gasket, air still leaking despite tightening the flanges. I applied a little bit of putty and made the good seal.

Thanks man! Very cool video. I actually do have a few personal vehicle that is "not even worth it", but I do have $20! I am taking a flange apart on a 1989 Honda tomorrow and was wondering if I can braze the muffler rust hole along the seam and then stumbled on your video. My second concern is whether there is a gasket in that flange I soaked today, so now I know a bit more about what I am up against and how to deal with it when I screw up. It's easiest that way than getting my computer keys all greasy. Thanks for taking the time to school us. I din't know there was such a repair clamp and would have welded on a new plate with 2 holes. I like your way better. Very clever on how to use two and stagger the old studs.

Great fix J La, I suppose you have to be fairly creative when it comes to mechanic's, my brand new bike out the show room is cutting out and leaking oil from the cylinder head onto the exhaust and flange, maybe from over filled engine oil, i am hoping it can be fixed

I appreciate the video sir, very informative and helpful. Sure maybe it could be trimmed in length but we're all human and you made many very good points that may have been missed if the video was trimmed. Thanks again for the great video!

FYI, sometimes the bolts won't clear the flange. I just tried this. I have a 2006 Honda Accord and it has a 3 bolt flange. I got the flange repair kits that were the same size as the pipe, 2in, but maybe I should've gotten the 2 1/4 because it just wouldn't work. I'm just taking it to a shop now because I don't have a good way to get the car up high enough anyway. It's too tight with a jack and jack stands. Total PITA.

cut the old flanges off completely, get an exhaust pipe adapter, they are about 5 inches long, they fit over the ends of both pipes, and you put two U clamps on and you are done. You can also get the adapters to match two different size exhaust pipes if necessary. Advanced Auto has them in stock all the time.
@mcw1906 Жыл бұрын
Water was coming out of mine also. I had an engine swap and it was squirting out of the flange after an engine swap.same pipes just when we put them back together, there was all the water. My friend did all of work and unfortunately he had left out of state and probably could have told me what was happening

Great idea! Are the bolt holes far enough apart where these 2-bolt split flanges would fit over a 3-bolt flange without it blocking the bolts?
@JLafix3 ай бұрын
Not sure on three, but I'm sure they make a 3 hole split flange
@ScottATL9993 ай бұрын
They do make 3 bolt split flanges, but to use it to clamp over the existing flange like in the video may not work as the bolts will be blocked by the old flange from connecting to the othwr piece. The 2-bolt piece being an oval may work though as it's holes might clear the old flange.

Why not slice the flange wings off the old pipes? They look dangerously sharp. Just lop off and bolt up the spot flanges.

Try 2-part brake paint. For example, G2. This is brushed on. But you need to clean the pipe first.
