I followed your great step-by-step process to get a quote on my board that I built in Fusion 360. All of the part orientations were wrong, despite being correct in the F360 library and board layout. The 5 boards were cheap at about 7 Euros but assembly had a lot of fees, bumping from Economical to Standard due to the ESP32 module, and then the parts for a total of 137 euros. And they didn't have stock on 3 connectors that I selected from the LCSC catalog... I've decided to order the raw parts for 2 units, wherever I can find them, and have JLCPCB just fabricate the boards. At this point, it's the first go at a brand new design so I'm sure it's full of errors! When I finalize it I might order 5 assembled.

You've spent a lot of time getting good at KiCAD, you've put in a lot of hours building up skills, libraries, etc, and it's still an up to date an relevant program. Learning a new program to do the same thing that you already know how to do well is seen a waste of your time. Work smarter not harder.

Hi Dave! I m so happy because since i start circuits by your tutorials i have waited for more detail informations about multiplexers to build giand midi controllers. I read lots of forums, articles, i worked with my electronic eng friend we designed couple of pcbs have mux. But we always had random CCs fluctuations if we solder lots of pots. And that problem doesnt let to map to knobs on screen.Maybe it s because wires. We add 0.1 uf capasitors between each pot legs but still has same problem. Is that shield usefull fir arduino uno midi controller( the code that you shared in 3 series videos 1-Potentiometers 2-Buttons 3-Multiplexer)? I think the capasitor on each multiplexer is to reduce random fluctuation from pots. Thats what i fight for more than a year.

I hope they have the nRF24L01. It's only available in a QFN package and I don't have a reflow oven. I recently found out that you have to practice to get the PCB to reflow correctly. EDIT: Wow, I just checked the website. They have the chip and the datasheet. The schematic for the PCB is in the back of the datasheet. Thank you for posting.

For Mateo clad PCBs we have give the solder paste to bottom side or manufactuer will give?

Great tutorial. There is a plugin now called "Fabrication Toolkit" that can be installed directly from within KiCad (through Plugin and Content Manager). It adds a new button to the PCB Editor called "Fabrication Toolkit" and generates all the necessary files. It makes several of the tweaking steps in this video unnecessary. Your tutorial is still very helpful though to understand the requirements and to double-check the files that are generated.

really nice tutorial... just one question if I may... the top side of a board I am currently designing has only through-hole components which I have therefore removed from the BOM. Should I delete all of these entries in the top-side .pos file or should I just send it through to JLCPCB as it is along with the Bottom-side .pos which contains all of the SMT components? would it even matter either way? Thanks again though... really really good tutorial :)

16:34 in schematic view, component properties, use “Exclude from BOM” for components you don’t want to place. 26:33 this is the most annoying part about SMD assembly - incorrect parts rotation. Apparently it’s not even right if you use their own tool, EasyEDA! Personally I have a program I run that corrects the rotation of parts in the CPL before submitting. That way I’m not relying on someone at JLCPCB “fixing” things correctly. The program also changes the column headings and makes all the other mundane changes.
