We got a call from the construction site for a JLG Scissor Lift that can't raise it's platform.
Let's see what the problem is, and hopefully fix it with no parts required :)
Enjoy!
Ivan

As always great video, I'm sure you're aware there's work in the field for skilled mechanics especially with these machines and the somewhat old or unusual construction equipment, as for those studs that are stripped, you could break off and grind the surface smooth and shoot new ones on, you could do it on site but it's better in a controlled environment

How to fix the tilt sensor attachment: grind/drill away the existing spacers and replace them with regular spacers, through bolts and nylock nuts; belt and brace with red Loctite, possibly some silicone to prevent water intrusion.

The unfortunate reality is that scissor lifts, or any elevated work platforms, are operator and environmentally abused, flogged into the ground and any maintenance is reactive, not proactive. It's also not a great idea to put body parts anywhere near the scissor mechanisms without installing the maintenance prop ! Great diagnostic !.👍👍🇭🇲

Ivan I'll give you some advice on these types of equipment as I work on these daily. 1. If your on a job site such as the one your on, your required to wear a fall arrest harness when operating the scissor lift or boom lift they refer to these as MEWPs (mobile Elevated Work Platform) (this is OHSA rules and it can prevent you from being injured or killed if something bad happens.) If the ministry of labor or OHSA does a spot check you may be required to have training to use the machine as the job site falls under the job sites jurisdiction (OHSA). 2. Never always think a problem can't be a simple fix or the operator was using the equipment wrong or basically came up with a BS story to go home early on a Friday to get wasted so they said the machine is acting up to prevent yourself looking for an issue that isn't there. 3. Problems like such your seeing with the leveling system could be as simple as a bad connection i.e. water in a connector or a pin backing out of a deutsch plug. The JLG analyzer is a good tool but sometimes it complicates simple problems to make you overthink. 4. Don't half ass any fix or temporary fix(i am just saying) this is a device is a MEWP that has to operate correctly and conform to safety guidelines as per OSHA and ANSI. So any half assed fixes or bypasses you encounter you should inform the customer of and document it to cover your ass. (I have seen my share of older machines and people wanting a free fix on your dime or get blamed for anything that goes wrong that had nothing to do with you. There are negligent and sneaky people in this business.) 5. Most of these MEWPs require some sort of an annual inspection to make sure they are up to snuff, this must be done by a company that deals with MEWPs (booms and scissors) and should be up to date if its on a jobsite. 6. Again cover your ass used equipment that is privately owned is usually the worst for maintenance so don't over estimate or overlook anything, like lack of oil changes, not greasing, leaks, worn parts, damage. and neglect and backyard fixes and disabling of safety equipment . 7. Don't sign off on anything unsafe or make a clause to say in your bills that this type of work does not include a warrantee for liablity purposes as again people are sneaky. Again keep up the good jobs. Cheers.

Another thing to watch Ivan would be this. Most of it i'm sure is redundant and obvious but i'll leave it there, and I'd suggest looking up information on Fall arrest harness policies and the usage of with OSHA and your state requirements: I work for a rental company that is very focused on safety. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oLhxp8-TmtDVk3U.html. Training for particular pieces of MEWPs may be required as well as an inspector or job site may require you have a training card to make sure your familiar with said piece of equipment or you may be looking at fines. Things to think about. Most of the larger equipment rental companies offer training and issue a training card as well if you so require. Be safe out there. BTW in a MEWP I always carry a cell phone in case the equipment breaks down and leaves me up in the air. This is also good advice when your the only one on site and don't have somebody to get you down. Be safe brother.

Even more important ! Never put any body part inside the scissor mechanism without installing the locking pin ! I don't know where it is, but there must be a mechanical locking pin that can prevent the scissor mechanism from moving while body parts are in the mechanism. Two arms, two hands and ten fingers is a good idea !

Another common issue is some outriggers either bleed down alittle, overtime, or operator doesn't bring them up all the way and you'll get lifting/drive issues. I suggest after replacing that sensor that u can recalibrate tilt with the analyzer. If u don't know the code to enter the service part its JLG's zip code backwards. 33271. Good luck and good find.

I never thought hot melt glue would hold the stainless steel gripping interior part, to the exterior plastic part of my 2000 Ford Expedition wheel covers, which hide the lug nuts on the aluminum wheels, but it did. I did have to scrub the inside with a paintbrush to get it clean before applying the hot glue. It beat paying something like $40 for a new piece of chromed plastic, since a missing one is a bit noticeable. It's not like epoxy, but is much easier to work with, and virtually free. Once I discovered how well the first one, which was coming apart, worked, I pulled them all off and went around the inside of the other 3 with a bead of hot melt. It seems to adhere somewhat to any clean surface. But you can still rip it apart, should you need to, like to replace that interior sensor with the broken screws.

The tilt sensor mounting was stressed by repeated leveling operations. The mounting method was not strong enough. Drill out all 4 "studs". Replace with shorter lengths of tubes as spacers. Fasten with longer screws that run through box top, retained by locknuts and through the spacer and board, with locknuts below the board. Apply epoxy over exposed screw heads.
