1. ・〜はずだ

1. 〜はずだ
[意味]確信していることを言う。should be~, must be~
[接続]V（普通形）+ はずだイA（普通形）+ はずだナA（普通形） + はずだ　※ ナAな + はずだ / ナAである + はずだN（普通形）+はずだ　※ Nの + はずだ / Nである + はずだ
* 今日は週末だから、郵便局は閉まっているはずです。
Today is the weekend, so the post office should be closed.
* 佐藤さんはお酒が嫌いだといっていたから 、ワインは飲まないはずです。Mr. Sato said he doesn't like to drink alcohol, so he shouldn't drink wine.
* 山田さんは帰国子女だから、英語がペラペラなはずですよ。Yamada-san is a returnee from abroad, so she should be able to speak English fluently.
* バスはもうすぐ来るはずです。もうちょっと待ちましょう。The bus should be here soon. Let's wait a little longer.
2. 〜始める
[意味]start to~ / begin to~Indicates the beginning of an action or phenomenon.
[接続]V（ます形）ます + 始める
* 田中さんは何も言わずに 食べ始めました。Mr. Tanaka started eating without saying anything.
* 先週から犬を飼い始めました。I started to get a dog last week.
* 雨が降り始めたから、急いで帰るね。It started to rain, so I'll hurry home.
3. 〜必要がある
[意味]It needs to do~
[接続]V（辞書形）+ 必要がある
* 飛行機はあらかじめ予約する必要がある。Flights need to be booked in advance.
* JLPTに合格したいなら、たくさん勉強する必要があります。If you want to pass the JLPT, you need to study a lot.
* 海外旅行をするなら、パスポートを作る必要があります。You need to make your passport before you travel abroad.
4. 〜方がいい
[意味]You had better~Express an advice or recommendation.
[接続]V（た形） + ほうがいいV（ナイ形） + ほうがいい
* あしたも朝早いから、今日は早く寝たほうがいいよ。We’ll be up early tomorrow morning, so you'd better go to bed early today.
* こんなやさしい問題も分からないの？ もっと勉強したほうがいいよ。Can't you understand such an easy question? You should study more.
* このお肉、ちょっとくさいから 食べないほうがいいよ。This meat stinks a little, so you shouldn't eat it.
* 疲れている時は あまり無理をしないほうがいいですよ。You shouldn't push yourself too hard when you are tired.
5. 〜ほど〜ない
[意味]X is not as ~ as Y.
[接続]N + ほど (i-Adj)くない
N + ほど (na-Adj)じゃない
* この肉は あの肉ほど美味しくない。This meat is not as good as that meat.
* 中国は ロシアほど大きくないです。China is not as big as Russia.
* このスマートフォンはiPhoneほど便利じゃない。This smartphone is not as useful as the iPhone.
