So I am on year 2 of our 24x12 intex pool and a couple things I can say for you. I have the Ultra XTR and after the 1st year there is very little rust, a bit of surface rust on 2 corner pieces. I expect it to continue rusting but at the current rate it'll be a few years before I worry about it. I also was disappointed in the pump that came with the pool. I ended up spending $200 or so and got the intex 2800gph pump and it is a crazy good improvement. I would highly recommend it if you're keeping the pool for a couple more years. Unfortunately prices have almost tripled so might have to wait till prices stabilize or get lucky to buy one direct from intex when in stock. With that pump I did have to spend another $50 or so on pieces to convert the 1.25" inputs to 1.5" but it's night and day with the flow and there's bigger pumps I believe. The skimmer with the bigger pump will blow you away, it's a whirlpool now and does an excellent job on cleaning the surface. Only con on it is I take it out when we're in the pool so it doesn't get hit. Last thing is the output. I haven't seen it on any videos yet but there are amazing parts being made from 3rd printers. I just had the piece in the link printed from a place I found locally for $9.30. All I did was send them the stl file and what material that the link says it needs to be made from (PLA I believe). Now I can get some circulation in the pool which I couldn't before and it just snaps in the existing output. www.thingiverse.com/thing:3715513 Figured I'd share a few things that really helped me. Good luck and love the deck.

Great vid to help people like me maybe have a chance to prevent this so I am looking at anti rusting (somehow) it's pretty wet in this part of Europe. Your vid also helps me with pump placement since my space is a bit restricted. My kind of guy, great dog, great family and all the best to you! Your vid has also helped me to work out the leg and overall pool placement since I want to straddle a small bush instead of cutting it down and digging all the roots up (they go down way more than across so i'm not worried roots coming up towards the pool. All the best to you.

Graham Number7 It’s really wet here too. The rust seems to be coming from the inside the tubes and rusting through. They have a new design that has paint on the inside. I plan on buying that next and seeing how well it works.

I have an Intex pool from 8 years ago. They were obviously made cheaper and cheaper as the years go by. Ours has no rust that I can see after 8 years. Rust is a common complaint with those pools now. A bigger filter is so worth it!

Thanks for the vid. My wife & I were about to buy the 16×32 Intex but I had to research before spending $1.8k on something that will rust out in one year. There are a few videos like yours where they ran into that problem and most have converted from salt. Thanks again, great deck by the way.
@PursuitofHappiness5 жыл бұрын
james coleman Thanks! I kind of expected the rust, but I had hoped that if they sold it as saltwater it would actually be manufactured to handle saltwater...lol! We have started working on the deck again to finally get it finished. Keep an eye out for more deck build videos coming soon!

same problem with ours... but I neglected to put the concrete down to stop the legs from sinking... so they rusted out and now we are getting another.... but look at how much they are asking for them now.... they are gouging.... 3k for one now... but we found one for 1800.... next one we are going to coat the corners with flex seal and use expanding foam in the areas where the corners go into the top sleeve... then coat the foam in flex seal so no water gets to the edge tubing..... then I am going to put a waterproof material over the corners... maybe use some of the old pool lining to make corner skirts.... I use hydrochloric acid to clean the saltwater diodes... much quicker..(mixed with pool water)... I have a different saltwater setup though... mine has one short and one long set of plates with a timer to set when it goes on and off.... my pump was also faulty and not pumping water as fast as it should ...and that made the salt build up terrible on the plates.... got a replacement under warranty and works soooo much better... more volume of water and plates only need to be cleaned every 2 or 3 weeks... and the vacuum? yeah... had to replace it.... faulty too... also the vacuum tubes crack after a while and its cheaper to buy the whole vacuum again than just get the tubing....????? great ..... all my hoses as they failed are being replaced with marine hose....from west marine.... and that's not cheap....stainless steel clamps help too... the good ones...not cheap.... we got 3 years out of it but it was a stretch.... even with the legs sinking and rusting.... I really liked how you put the 4x8 foam down...easier to tell if level.... those concrete blocks for the legs? where you get those? I'm in Fl too..... I'm using our old intex pool for the tarp on the bottom... I just cut the corners like a cardboard box and voila.... In the end..... it's cheaper than a $30,000 same size inground....just dissappointing there are so many cheap aspects to this thing.

Finding your videos on this pool very helpful. Thank you. Curious as to how badly the sides leaned in when filling. I am about 3/4 full and they are still leaning in a lot. Worried I may not have something right...
@PursuitofHappiness4 жыл бұрын
dkamstein They lean in a lot until it is all the way full. I worried something was wrong too. I can see a difference in how much they lean after the kids splash out water playing before the rain fills it back up. Them most important things are to make sure the leg supports are level with the ground under the pool and that you get all the wrinkles out of the bottom before you get more then about 6 inches to a foot of water. Once you have over a foot, any wrinkles are there for good. Lol

Hey Man, Great Video - I watched both, the set up and this 1 year recap. They are very informative. We're getting ready to assemble our 12 x 24 Intex purchased in March, 2021. I sincerely hope that there have been improvements regarding rust control, we'll see & report. I have one question - that i hope you can answer ... In your set-up video, you used 9 sheets of 4 x 8 foam board for the base. That's exactly 12/24. Was there any overhang or was that a good fit to support the bottom? Thanks, again.
@PursuitofHappiness3 жыл бұрын
There is a little overhang of the foam. The top of the walls are 12x24, but the floor is about 6 inches smaller. That gives the walls a slight slope inward. The overhang doesn’t get in the way and isn’t a problem at all. It actually made a perfectly smooth bottom and it’s worth every penny spent. I know they have improved the pools considerably since I bought mine. I honestly would have bought another one, but they were out of stock with no ETA of when it would be back in stock so I just went a different way. Hope you enjoy the pool!
@mikemikeska21324 жыл бұрын
I just bought one , and it hasn't arrived yet but was just wondering if your ground was level or is that why you built a wood frame around it first and filled with dirt then sand . Asking because I have a bit of a slope on one end of my yard and that looks like a good way to take care of the problem and keep erosion out . I really like the idea of the insulation sheets down first on top of the dirt,,great idea.
@PursuitofHappiness4 жыл бұрын
Mike Mikeska My ground had a lot of slope to it. That’s why I dug it all out and put the wood frame around it. I had about two feet of drop from the highest point to the lowest point. It just seemed easier to level the entire area first and start from there. The insulation sheets worked perfectly. It’s worth the $100 for a prefect bottom to the pool! Good luck with your build!

Pursuit of Happiness Hey! Me and my family own a intex ultra frame pool (12x24) and we bought it last year expecting it to last one year but we used it this summer and no rust no nothings it’s amazing.. we don’t use salt water thought. In sweden where I live most people don’t use salt water and we know a lot of people with intex pools and they have had them for a few years and most of them have little to no rust :) i think it would be better to find an alternative to salt water to make the pool last longer ✨

@2DaNub5 жыл бұрын
Do you have the intex ultra or ultra xtr? The ultra xtr claims to have double powder coated galvanized steel frames which prevents rust. If you only have the ultra, I wonder if the xtr will be better as far as actually preventing it from rusting. I'm looking at the xtr and am wondering if anyone has experienced rusting with theirs. Anyone with the xtr, please let me know.
@PursuitofHappiness5 жыл бұрын
2DaNub Mine is just the Ultra. It says it’s powder coated to prevent rust, but maybe the double powder costed would be better. If I buy replacement parts, I might paint them with rust-oleum paint to see if that makes a difference.

I wonder if you can silicone wrap the frame corners to prevent the rust. Is there any rust further down inside the vinyl folds or anywhere underneath? About to install one this summer w/ salt.
@PursuitofHappiness4 жыл бұрын
nimbiot It might help. There is definitely rust down the side tubes now, but it started at the corners for sure. The areas of the tubes that are deep inside the pool seem to still be solid. We are getting a new pool this year, once they are available again here, and I will take this one apart and make a video to show how bad the rust actually is inside.

My kids and I are researching pools and want to put in a pool with deck built like yours. What is the cost of a deck like that around the pool?
@PursuitofHappiness5 жыл бұрын
Tina Morgan The entire deck project cost about $12,000. I haven’t kept complete record of everything, but for a deck this large I would guess $12,000-$15,000 depending on Home much prices differ in different locations. Just the raised area around the pool itself would be a lot less.

The concrete blocks aren't level to the ground (16x16). I am trying to learn before my pool goes up next week. any reason why they are not level?
@PursuitofHappiness4 жыл бұрын
CXL Mobile Headlight Restoration I leveled them to each other all the way around the pool and then used some fill and 1/2 inch insulation boards to make sure the bottom of the pool was smooth. The blocks being level to each other was the most important part, the ground in the middle was more forgiving.
@zino66615 жыл бұрын
is that the "Ultra Frame XTR " or "Ultra Frame" ??? Because "supposedly" the Ultra XTR metal is galvanized and has 2 years warranty, where the "Ultra Frame" has only 90 days warranty. I have the Ultra XTR on its way and you got me worried about the rust. I believe the rust start from inside the pipe (not from outside). I'm thinking to coat the inside pipes with marine grease. I don't know about that, knowing that petroleum product and rubber don't behave nice together. Hopefully someone might be able to shim in
@PursuitofHappiness5 жыл бұрын

Graham Number7 I have had no sinking at all. We are in Florida, so I only have sand for soil. I used the tamp to compact the soil and it has been good. I only wish I had put gravel around everything to limit erosion. I will add that on the next pool.

The salt system really does a lot of damage to these pools. After running the salt system for 2 seasons, ours was totally destroyed, rusted so bad it fell apart literally. If intex is going to sell salt systems, they need to make the pool hardware resin , because salt systems ruin metal pools.
@PursuitofHappiness4 жыл бұрын
Magical Melody This is so true! Also, Intex will not sell the replacement parts. They are listed on their website, but have been unavailable for over a year. Now even their pools are unavailable.

Pursuit of Happiness wow. Yeah last year when I was shopping for a new pool I had to get a Coleman cuz intex was just not available. I’d say it’s well worth it to get a whole new pool just don’t put the salt system on it. Instead use chlorine tablets and granules or shock. My old pool was perfectly fine till I added that salt system. It degraded really quickly after that.
