I know this is years later, but did the 9-4x8 sheets of foam cover the entire base of the pool liner?

Yes, we laid them out and taped the seams so they were smooth and wouldn’t shift. It worked very well.

Putting my Intex 18x8x52” in soon. Noticed you used foam panels under it. Any pros/cons of it? Comments? I’m in Florida too

The foam insulation boards worked great. It made for a very flat smooth floor with very little effort. I had no issues at all with it. Definitely worth the extra money of the panels.

@@PursuitofHappiness I just had a 13x22x3’Deep hole dug to put mine down into. Building a deck straight out from back slider that 🤞🏼will all be same height as pool. Decking it all around with a 4” end cap on deck edges that will hide the bar edge. Maybe that will help keep it from rusting! Was the pool that rusted the newer Ultra XTR version? I wonder if wrapping the corners with those foam tubes they have to insulate hot water pipes wud help?
@PursuitofHappiness2 жыл бұрын
@@013686 Mine was the older version. I be heard the XRT version is better. Mine had no paint or protection inside the metal tubes. It seems like that is we’re the rust started. The corners have to be able to move in and out and water water moves so I thin watching for scratches in the paint and covering them would be the best thing to do. Hopefully the newer version is just better and last longer for you. Post videos as you go!

I have the 12x24 Intex pool too. This is my 5th year and it is showing signs of rust and the liner is almost white now. I have decided that this is the last year and will get another next summer. However, after looking at yours I am wondering if a different brand with straight walls wouldn't be the better choice. What brand is this new pool? How do you like the oval vs the rectangle?

I got it from Home Depot. It is 1/2 inch thick foam insulation board. FOAMULAR 1/2 in. x 4 ft. x 8 ft. R-3 Square Edge Rigid Foam Board Insulation Sheathing. It is about $15 a sheet here.

I am on 6 years on the same pool. I keep the structure up all year long even with the Minnesota winters, and I clean it every spring and good to go. I’ll probably have one more season on it and I will replace it with the same Intex pool.

After watching you're other videos, I'm going to suggest that your water is not well balanced. You should not have that much buildup on your SWCG, especially not that often. The amount of rust you have also highly suggests this. As does the bleaching of your liner. You may be adding too much salt to your water. Your chlorine levels may be too high. Intex and intex-like pools are not intended to be permanent pools. They aren't intended to last, however, you should not have that much rust. You really need to be testing your water daily. Don't take a sample to the pool store, they're known for being incorrect so they can sell you something. Buy a Taylor kit and salt level test kit. Buy a separate SWGC so you can NOT run it when your chlorine is too high. It's also a good idea to rinse down your pipes/supports after each swim. A lot of people want to blame the pool quality for the rust. Pool stores/builders will also blame the quality of Intex and other brand "portable pools," but really it is the improper balancing of chemicals that is the biggest culprit. If your cleaner doesn't run well along the floor, you've got wrinkles or divots or your pump pressure isn't high enough or the cleaner is full. I've had mine for 4 years and have never had an issue with it. Also, be sure you're connecting it to the INLET side, NOT suction. Building a permanent deck around a temporary pool is never a good idea. If that's what you want, you might as well invest in a permanent pool. You can even buy kits to install them yourself. You'll spend about as much, considering how much the price of these temporary pools has gone up since 2019. Bearing in mind that if you are not properly balancing the Chems in a permanent pool, you'll soon run into problems with that, too.

So I am on year 2 of our 24x12 intex pool and a couple things I can say for you. I have the Ultra XTR and after the 1st year there is very little rust, a bit of surface rust on 2 corner pieces. I expect it to continue rusting but at the current rate it'll be a few years before I worry about it. I also was disappointed in the pump that came with the pool. I ended up spending $200 or so and got the intex 2800gph pump and it is a crazy good improvement. I would highly recommend it if you're keeping the pool for a couple more years. Unfortunately prices have almost tripled so might have to wait till prices stabilize or get lucky to buy one direct from intex when in stock. With that pump I did have to spend another $50 or so on pieces to convert the 1.25" inputs to 1.5" but it's night and day with the flow and there's bigger pumps I believe. The skimmer with the bigger pump will blow you away, it's a whirlpool now and does an excellent job on cleaning the surface. Only con on it is I take it out when we're in the pool so it doesn't get hit. Last thing is the output. I haven't seen it on any videos yet but there are amazing parts being made from 3rd printers. I just had the piece in the link printed from a place I found locally for $9.30. All I did was send them the stl file and what material that the link says it needs to be made from (PLA I believe). Now I can get some circulation in the pool which I couldn't before and it just snaps in the existing output. www.thingiverse.com/thing:3715513 Figured I'd share a few things that really helped me. Good luck and love the deck.

2 things : Don't use this on the doors of your camper, it took the paint off the door on my Exess horse trailer. The conversion company said the doors are from a camper supplier. It worked great on the white metal though. 2: Flipflops are not the shoe of choice for climbing a ladder. I am not a Safety NAZI by any stretch of the imagination, but you only need to see ONE child hung up in a ladder with a compound fracture to make you think differently. Just want to save Alex a whole lot of pain and trouble for the rest of his life . Because he wore the wrong shoes. Thanks for the info. I subscribed.

Hey Man, Great Video - I watched both, the set up and this 1 year recap. They are very informative. We're getting ready to assemble our 12 x 24 Intex purchased in March, 2021. I sincerely hope that there have been improvements regarding rust control, we'll see & report. I have one question - that i hope you can answer ... In your set-up video, you used 9 sheets of 4 x 8 foam board for the base. That's exactly 12/24. Was there any overhang or was that a good fit to support the bottom? Thanks, again.
@PursuitofHappiness3 жыл бұрын
There is a little overhang of the foam. The top of the walls are 12x24, but the floor is about 6 inches smaller. That gives the walls a slight slope inward. The overhang doesn’t get in the way and isn’t a problem at all. It actually made a perfectly smooth bottom and it’s worth every penny spent. I know they have improved the pools considerably since I bought mine. I honestly would have bought another one, but they were out of stock with no ETA of when it would be back in stock so I just went a different way. Hope you enjoy the pool!
