Fun fact: dan legitimately beat chun-li in a story fight in sfA3. She got so salty about it that she tried to arrest the poor smuck for "assaulting an officer" even tho she's the one who attacked him first! It was hilarious and i love this guy lol

The lore of dan is actually kinda cool. So his dad was actually a really good martial artist and a rival to sagat, they fought and he gouged sagat’s eye (hence the eyepatch) and sagat killed him. Ever since, dan wanted revenge and actually went to gouken (ryu and kens teacher) to learn how to fight and briefly trained with ryu and ken. He was expelled though, because gouken found out that he wanted to use the power for revenge. However, he used whatever skills he learned and combined it with his own style, which is why it’s so similar to ryu and ken. What’s really cool is that he was able to tap into the satsui no hado but tripped over something and failed :(

IIRC Sagat was the villain in SF1, but Ryu literally shoryukened the evil out of him, giving him that signature scar. After that point he's basically on a journey of self-discovery, being a mostly good-aligned character, at least in SF4 and 5, and taking whatever opportunities he can get to get a rematch in with Ryu on the way.

Dan in lore was a student of Gouken but was kicked out due to training wanting to get revenge on sagat who killed his father. Dans father also took sagats eye. Dan trains sakura because he lied about his connection with ryu

I think the reason that the first video was so popular is that you gave a lot of glimpses into SF4's metagame. People who weren't intimate with the game have a hard time learning what it was like to actually play the game, but your explanation of mechanics and execution gave them an idea of what it was like. You should make a video or two going over some of the old ways.

the thing is dans weakness is because of his pride and overconfidence. you can infer that he throws his fireballs with one hand because he saw gouken throw them with one hand. He still gets 'A' fireball, thus he has ability, but because he doesnt want to use two hands he'll never have a full effective fireball. Simultaneously all of his "shoto" normals are bad but all of his original stuff is better (looking at least)

In Dan's last trial it's easier to hit the focus cancel on the last EX gadoken as it has more hitstun than the normal version and allows you to put in some more damage.

I remember the old Street Fighter 2 Turbo, I think, but it was definitely one of the Street Fighter 2 games about Balrog it was a secret that if you held down all three punch buttons for I think about either 30 to 60 seconds, he could take down half the energy or near all of the energy from anyone. It was the special move where he would turn and then as he comes around he would punch as he dashes and with the turn around move, he is invincible nearly as he can go through any projectile by avoiding them by that same move. I loved Street Fighter games ever since I seen it at arcades at an old Convineint Store. I didn't really start doing combos until Street Fighter 2 Turbo and of course, I love Ryu. I have quite some time at adjusting to these new games with Street Fighter 4 and 5 cause I like that of the old way although I love the graphics. I have all the Street Fighter games cause I got Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, Ultra Street Fighter 4, and of course Street Fighter 5. I have aweful time learning the focus attack or even using the focus attack cause I'm always stuck with what is in the past as I just forget about the new moves. Then my kicks are changed to especially with me using Ryu cause he has changed since back in Street Fighter 2 as his hard kick could be used to cross up in which I use to use a combo that I learned in Street Fighter 2 Turbo called Triple Hit Dragon Punch where you had to absolutely use Ryu hard kick to cross over then hit the opponent with a hard punch then finally use short dragon punch. It took me forever to learn it to get it to connect right but when I got use to it, I could do it and use just that combo as it took almost all of the health bar when the combo is being used and now I have to learn to adjust or strategically strategize in these new Street Fighter games cause looks like there here to stay now. I do love the Street Fighter games and can't wait for Street Fighter 6 to eventually announced.

So the sound dan's ultra 1 makes is actually a reference to the kyokugenryu fighting style ryo from art of fighting uses since every dash up super the practioners have make a sound similar to that at the end of it the fireball ultra also has a similar shape to fireball super the users also have, but thats a bit of a stretch

Dan is actually tied in w Ken n ryu. Dan's dad was killed by sagat when sagat flipped out in his younger days. Dan was training with ryu n Ken's master but he left early that's y he has a flawed version of their style. He really would b good if he wasn't so dumb and cocky and finished his training. I mean him and akuma are the only ones with a raging demon. That has to count for something. And Dan has that while being half assed. If he would've finished training he would be great. He's also tied to akuma some kind of way. There's more to his history and lore but I forgot

dan real life lore is also interesting he meant to be a parody of Robert and Ryo from snk the Art of Fighting. He started out as a part of arcade art for Sagat in street fighter alpha then evolved into his own character. this is why he does fireballs with one hand and they are short ranged. and he says ora ora during his attacks.

Little late, but getting those spacing critical ground links is a lot easier after an early/high jump in fierce/rh since you'll start closer to the opponent due to the weird recoil in SF4.

I think that the whole "Dan is actually good" was because this version of Dan is the best compared to what he's capable of in previous games. So it's kinda like "(Dan has always been terrible, but in SF4) *he is actually strong* (still bottom tier, and terrible but better than ever)"

What do you mean can't charge out of a jump? You can and is in all the charge characters trails. Boxers jump is just shorter so it's tighter but made up for by his godlike hit confirms. Try jumping with chun-li you got time to do your taxes before she lands.

I main Nash in sfv and the Sagat match up just seems godawful to me 🤷. I can beat all the traditional shotos but his normals are much longer than my t rexxed up Nash and plasma chucking abilities are a force to be reckoned with

It was with SFIV that i learned to play fighting games... still suck at them though by the way i noticed on the last video you didn't talk a lot about double tapping, what that does is send two inputs with a 1 frame interval like this 0 X 0 (0 is an input X is no input) so it makes any 2 frame combo a 4 frame combo( you can hit the double tap up to 2 frames before you're suppose to link and it will work) also it kind of make you hit 1 frame link if you hit it exactly 2 frames earlier... But i never learned how to properly do fadc combos... imagine explaining ume shoryu to a newb "ah so you do a shoryuken then press medium punch+ medium kick , then foward foward and ultra"

Yeah dan isn't good, he just singlehandedly made a comeback at evo and placed 1st. Even against characters with no dp dan is bad. Not like his light kick special kick usually trades and knocks down or flat out beats the opponents reversals.
