We drive the wrecked Porsche 356 C up the coast through Santa Barbara, Pismo Beach, Big Sur, Carmel By The Sea, Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Fransisco during the Monterey Car Week.

That was THE organized drive for the Pebble Beach show cars- it's one way to see the cars without paying the admission price.

When I was in the Navy in San Diego back in 1968, a ship mate took me and another guy to his Mom’s house for the weekend in the valley. Los Angeles I believe. He had an older VW Bug that we piled into. We visited the hippie shops, gathered his girl friend, and camped on Malibu Beach. Quite an adventure for a young man from North Carolina.

I’m glad to know there is another 356 out there that is in the same condition as my daily driver and also there are younger people that appreciate the virtues of the older Porsches

Glad to see the beach at Pismo is opened up again to cars,...Barefoot and Porsche! awesome. $7.59/ gallon,..WOW! Monterey Car Week,..Bucket list for Ya'll. The parking lot at the GG bridge looked surprisingly empty,..weekday slow. Thanks for posting a great video. Looking forward to the next installments.

Seeing you drive this car makes me think of my neighbor Ralph Maines (RIP) member of the Loma Prieta Region of the PCA. He had 3 of these cars and got me interested enough that I had 2.

Heard lots of positive comments about you as a El Camino Club member and knew Dave Stevens quite well a few years back so met his sons Matt and Mitch. Dave worked at Putnam and sold a truck to my son many years ago and was a truck club member along with my brother. We all went to "Hot August Nights" a number of times a few years back. I was told your daughter was/is married to ??Matt, I believe. Just thought it would be fun to show really how small the world still is. Even with the "Internet"!!! Stay in one place long enough, (Born in SF in the early 40's) and you know EVERYONE or someone who knows someone!!!

From Santa Barbara..lived in SLO and Avila Beach..Know coastal road very, very well. Used to have 1965 356C convertible, British racing green in perfect condition..sold for $9,000 for "family car. Due stop at Nepthene in Big Sur. great view and try their "burger".

the best, Jared...as I said I've made that dreive many times in a 912. Could feel every second of it. Morning fog is the best and helps the car run cool.

Did the same trip, in reverse, many years ago with my kids in a almost new 74 pickup with a rented camper shell on the back from the San Francisco Peninsula. Stopped at all the "points of interest" (Santa Cruz, San Simeon, Carmel, etc) along the way to Disneyland. Those kids are working toward retirement age right now. Time FLYS!!!

Your video production skills are startng to outweigh your rebuild ones... and that's a tall order! Thoroughly enjoyable tour to date and eagerly awaiting tomorrows drive.The blending of the mounted GO-PROS on the car, the skate board and the drone shots... you're looking more and more like Hollywood! NOTE: With all the thumbs up and comments you've received on "this" drive.... not one person said... "GET THAT THNG PAINTED"! Keep on keeping on Jared! You're renewing my faith in youth and the future of America. There must be others... maybe millions like yourself. We're not in such bad shape after all as all so many "old farts" would have us believe!!

FYI The PCH stops below San Luis Obispo. From Morro Bay north the road is known as Hiway 1, not "PCH". No one calls it PCH unless you are a tourist or from Southern California. I bought my only Porsche in Big Sur in 1965, a 1953 bent window coupe for the princely sum of $100... yes. one hundred dollars.

Enjoyed that. Did pretty much the same route in reverse in 1993, on my first trip to US (honeymoon). Its a lovely drive. started in LA, then Vegas, death valley, sequoia, Mamoth, Yosemite,lake Tahoe,Sacremento, & your trip as return. Fab. A lot has changed since then.

what a great vid. its amazing that the CA costal hiway still exists in its raw form...anywhere else in the country it would be overgrown with tshirt shops and chain restaurants. what incredible luck to happen upon the Pebble Beach rally...car guy nirvana.

On a separate note, our gas in Canada is 1.67 per litre which in Canadian dollars is $6.30 US or $8.02 Canadian. So a bit of a bargain in our money.

We pay 2 euro for one liter gas. about 8 euro for one galon that is 9.41 $ every day .In Holland Europe

Expensive gas ! Sadly that has become the average price in California. I can’t imagine how much they want now for a gallon now in that area

No, going rate now is about $4.40. But when you’re the only gas station for many miles I guess you charge what you want.

One of the few gas stations in Big Sur. Typically you try and load up before entering but if you have a gas guzzler you don’t have many options

It has the big bore kit so, I think it’s closer to 1800cc. Basically the 356 has about twice the HP but revs about half as high as the Honda S600. The two cars are so different in so many ways I wouldn’t know how to compare them. But they are both extremely fun to drive!
