In the 60's I used to sit in front on our stereo record player and play her songs over and over again trying to learn her picking style and the words. This song brings back so many memories for a lot of us. Great folk singer, incredibly clear voice.

She is an an unparalleled talent an artist driven by truth, peace , and understanding. Thanks Joan been listening to you for 39 yrs. I usually listen to progressive rock, but artists such as she, Peter Paul, and Mary, Woody Guthrie, John Denver, Bob Dylan, and Simon and Garfunkle are beyond GENRE, and often beyond words. Thank you justynaija for posting.

I just watched a documentary on Joan...it made me realise what an amazing talent she is and was and how strong a woman and a person she is/was to put herself and her personal interests second to her strong beliefs and to act upon them for the benefit of others. And she is still going strong...I am in awe.

Joan was one of the greatest folk singers/activists of my generation! I was so fortunate to be able to meet her and spend a day around her. I was a hippie in Haight Ashbury (San Francisco) in the mid 1960's and volunteered at the Free Clinic on Haight St. One day Joan came to volunteer. She was so wonderful and down-to-earth. She took on any task and in her free moments she sat in the waiting room and sang to the kids and looked at some of their songs. It is a day I have never forgotten!

i sang this song in a military drunk tank back in '66 when i was only 18..an older sailor sang along with me as he was also sobering up inside this military drunk tank and he said to me..your much too young to be drinking..and i just smiled at him..and kept right on singing this sad but true song...and i suppose we still haven't learn yet...

@CajunTechie You have to envy someone who can see something this clearly...these may very well be the most amazing lyrics ever put down. I heard this song many times when I was young, but never really paid attention to the lyrics. One day it came on the radio, and for some reason I tuned in to it. When the "full circle" hit me I was knocked for a loop. Funny....maybe "not listening" is the problem. Absolutely amazing, I hope the world listens someday, I'm glad I did. Pete Seeger, brilliant.

How can anyone who is decent say anything negative about this lady? She almost died supporting our troops, is steadfast in her beliefs(you can't say that of any politicians}, and the woman has NEVER been a hypocrite. Ever! May I ask, how many have been to church every Sunday,(as I have but no longer) and worshipped aside the most hypocritical SOBs that ever lived? Peace to all and we will come back to it. Joan will live forever. She is one tough woman and I am thankful for it.

I'm sure that Joan is very proud of the comments left on this song of peace and healing. Why are so many people leaving angry and nasty comments online? If you take away accountability, and give humanity anonymity, are we really that quick to be hateful and cruel? Then there really is no hope for peace! It's pathetic!

"Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" is a folk song of the 1960s written by Pete Seeger and Joe Hickerson. It was first performed by Marlene Dietrich in French (as "Qui peut dire ou vont les fleurs?") in 1962 at a UNICEF concert. She also recorded the song in English and in German. The Kingston Trio recorded the song in 1962 & claimed authorship, but they took their name off when Seeger asked them to. Peter, Paul and Mary, Joan Baez and The Countrymen all recorded it as a popular folk song.
