Man, Joan Jett was so badass. Everyone kept saying “no no no, girls can’t play rock and roll” and she gave them a fat middle came out on stage blew that gate wide the fuck open. I don’t consider myself a huge feminist or anything, but as a musician I’ve got a lot of respect for people who get out there and express themselves regardless of how many people say “no, you can’t do that”. And in many ways she opened the doors for many of my favorite female artists and I think she’s one of the most important figures in modern music history.

What a lot of people don’t understand about music is that this shit takes work. It doesn’t just fall out of the sky it takes years and years of practice and countless hours fine tuning you songs until they’re perfect, so what someone is like “no you can’t play that, it’s too explicit or whatever” it’s like, look, here’s the deal, I’ve got something to say and I’m going to say it. Now, you can walk away, wear earplugs, roll around on the ground kicking and screaming but this IS going to happen. I’ve worked too hard and come to far to just give up because you say no.

OKAY UPDATE I👏FOUND👏BAND👏MEMBERS👏 two others, one who plays guitar (and is a lot better than me) and one who sings but is also willing to learn other instruments. Its not much of a band yet but we all think we can jam when we get the chance.

I met an Asian student new to America in 1982. He painted extraordinary water color paintings that were next level. He knew very little English when he arrived but he made many friends because he could sing this song word for word. In 7th grade, that was EVERYTHING. Joan is my absolute idol. I have two posters of her in my room I have a shirt for her band, I want to get a Gibson melody maker like she has like she’s the reason I want to play the guitar and the drums and become a rock musician. I want to dress like her too. I’m seeing her live in like a month and I’m so so so excited 😆 I also wanna see her movie with Michael j fox so bad cause he’s one of my favorite actors. Like my favorite musician and actor together playing music. Sounds awesome.

Hell yeah get it grrl. I've been a huge Metallica fan for pretty much my entire 31 years on this giant floating turd called earth.. and seeing other women get into it in spite of all the bullshit we've had to put up with just to do what we love makes me so damn happy. We are truly a different breed, resilient and tenacious. I'm a metal bassist and big Cliff Burton fan of course so I have been shit on by male metalheads even if I play better than they can... I hope they stay salty as fuck lol. From another queer rocker chick to another I know you can do this if you want it bad enough. And you have just as much right as anyone else to exist in these male dominated spaces and play your music. Show them you're equal
