@@mikeg.9238 you could make a case for Nita, but i think the reason they probably wanted to include Joan Jett is to put a more well known name in. well by that tokin, Lita Ford would be a good option as you mentioned, but i was never wowed by her guitar playing, and i would argue Joan is about the same as Lita. you also have to factor Lita is the queen of heavy metal, whereas Joan Jett is one of the female pioneers of punk. and with punk there's very little solo's, it's all 2 to 3 minute fast past songs. i think out of all the female guitarist I've seen over the years, Nita is about the best I've seen, but she's not as known as Lita Ford and Joan Jett. Pat Benatar is another big name for a female in the Rock world, but she doesn't play guitar, although she does know how to play, but her husband wrote all the music while she sang. one thing you have to consider is, this is Rolling Stone wanting to include her. if this was guitar magazine this would be a different conversation, but every person whether they sing or play guitar, bass, or both, it's a pretty big deal for anybody to make it into Rolling Stone. but everybody knows Rolling Stone today is a farcry from what they started in the late 60's.
