If I could only listen to one singer for the rest of my life it would be Joan Osborne. She is a vastly superior singer to the more popular ones the media fawns over. Whatever "soul" is, this lady has it.

Very soulful version. She does a fantastic rendition. I think it's better than the other versions out there; Hall & Oats, Rippington and other's - including the original by the Spinners.

Why are you stinking up the place with your bigotry and racist tirades? This is a beautiful song meant to be enjoyed. Go somewhere else if you want to spread hate.

White artist usually can't pull off descent covers by black artist. Not like black artist can...i.e. (Superstar) Baby come back to me by the Carpenters done by Luther Vandross and Bob Dylan's All along the Watchtower completely owned by Hendrix. The song by the Spinners...you need soul to sing it because this song is magikal. I'll give her a pass...☥

Never had gotten all of overhyped, glammed-up, overrated promotion as that English "even-toed ungulate" did.

I like Joan Osborne, but this is a terribly bland version of a classic tune. She did so much better on What Becomes of The Brokenhearted.

Theoriginal thinker I profoundly disagree although I like the song you cited and her version.
